The Oswego State women’s basketball team fell to Elmira College in the championship game of the Max Ziel Tournament on Saturday by a final score of 53-40. Oswego drops to 1-2 on the season while Elmira remains undefeated with a 3-0 record.
Oswego center Rachel Windhausen led all Lakers in scoring with nine points on 4-for-8 shooting from the field. She snagged 11 rebounds and was one point shy of a double double. Senior Zana Dillard led Oswego in the rebounds category with 13.
Windhausen was named tothe All-Tournament Team directly after the contest.
Up next for the Lakers is a four-game road trip that starts in Rochester, N.Y. at 5 p.m. on Tuesday against Nazareth College.

Oswego Sub Shop employee tests positive for COVID-19
OSWEGO, NY — On Thursday, September 24th, Oswego Sub Shop released information via their Facebook page about a part-time employee testing positive for COVID-19. The employee went on a camping trip to the Adirondacks last week before returning back to work on Sunday, September 20th for her shift from 3:45 pm to 10:35 pm, the post reads. During the shift, the employee was “experiencing allergy like symptoms” and was sent home early.
“She woke up Monday morning with a fever, went and got tested and was given the results that she was positive around 12:00 noon yesterday September 23rd, Owner William Greene stated in the post. “We worked closely with the Oswego County Health Department to determine what employees needed to quarantine as a precaution for 14 days, they have been contacted.”
The company notified all 40+ employees about the positive case prior to the announcement on Facebook, in cooperation with the Health Department’s protocols. This morning, the company had Sanitizing Technologies completely sanitize the store along with their delivery cars, which usually happens once a month along with this emergency treatment. Oswego Sub Shop will remained open under normal operating hours.
Oswego County Health Department released a press release this afternoon around 3:45 p.m. regarding the potential exposure. Oswego County Public Health Director Jiancheng Huang was quoted in this document stating, “any customer who visited the restaurant during that time should monitor themselves for symptoms of COVID-19 for 14 days.”

Earth Week
Earth Week may be coming to a close, but what did you miss? Quite a bit tobe frank. This past week SUNY Oswego celebrated everything that earth does for us and demonstrated support for environmental protections. This week the campus celebrated and presented the contributions that students and faculty have made thus far in order to preserve our schools beauty and environment.
On Monday we discussed how the removal of plastic and wastes from around campus and the dining halls has genuinely made a big impact on the amount of plastic that is discarded on a day to day basis.
On Tuesday we participated in reducing car usage by being able to use amenities provided to us through the Sustainability office such as bike share where you can rent a bike from the office located in Hewitt and bus share which provided alternate transportation for commuter students.
On Wednesday a climate change panel co-hosted by the Environmental Advisory Council and the Sustainability office discussed the challenges within the concept of climate change which will feature multiple different faculty members all representing a different program of study at Oswego.
On Thursday we focused on using alternate search engines that give back to the planet such as Ecosia which has been using their profits since 2009 to plant trees which has resulted in over 54 million trees being planted. We also focused on our new printing program Lakerprint which is projected to save around 120,000 sheets of paper a year due to getting rid of banner pages and sheets with our names.
However on Friday Lucas Grove a senior philosophy-psychology major will present the progress he has made in the “Fresh Water for All” project.

Oswego State Volleyball Splits SUNYAC Doubleheader
The Oswego State volleyball team split a doubleheader at Max Ziel Gymnasium this afternoon as they defeated Oneonta 3-1 and then fell to Fredonia by the same score. After today’s games, Oswego is now 9-11 on the season and 3-3 in conference play. Conference foe, Oneonta, falls to 8-14 overall and 2-3 in the SUNYAC with Fredonia moving to 13-7 and 5-1 in the conference.
Against Oneonta, Allison Sullivan and Lauren Fie each had seven kills by the end of the second set to give the Lakers a 2-0 lead. While they struggled in the third set, largely due to a 10-2 run by the Red Dragons, Oswego regained their rhythm to win the contest. Leading the Lakers on the court were Alison Berger with 15 assists and Sarah Braddon with 15 digs on defense.
With momentum from their last match on their side, Oswego jumped out to a 1-0 lead against Fredonia. That would be the only set that they would come out on top in though, as crucial runs by the Blue Devils led to wins by scores of 25-12, 25-23, and 25-17. On the offensive side, Allison Sullivan and Laura Finn led the Lakers with eight kills apiece while Julia Flohr contributed eighteen assists as well as six digs on defense.
Oswego’s will be back in action in Canton next Saturday for a doubleheader where they will take on the ‘Roos and Maine Fort-Kent.
