Women’s hockey beats Williams
This weekend, the women’s hockey team travelled to Willamstown, MA to take on Williams.
On Saturday, the Lakers would defeat the Ephs 7-2. At the end of the second period, the Lakers were up 2-0. In the third period, Alexa Aramburu would contribute to the five goal period by scoring three out of the five goals. This would be Aramburu’s second-career hat trick. Olivia Ellis also had a great game scoring one goal and assisting on all three of Aramburu’s goals.
On Sunday, the Lakers would again defeat the Ephs, but this time only by a score of 1-0. The lone goal came from Alexa Aramburu in the second period. Jacquelin White and Olivia Ellis assisted Aramburu’s goal. Mariah Madrigal recorded her second shutout of the season and seventh victory. Madrigal stopped all 32 of the Ephs’ on-goal attempts. She has now made 25 or more saves in each of her last three outings, all culminating in wins.
The Lakers will return home this weekend and play Canton in a Friday night game and a Saturday afternoon game.

Lakers Split Weekend Series With Buffalo State
The Oswego State women’s hockey team lost to the Buffalo State Bengals by a score of 2-1 on Sunday. With the loss, the Lakers drop to 3-2 on the season and 1-1 in the NEWHL while the Bengals move to 2-4 with a 2-2 conference record.
Throughout the game, the Lakers held their own as they outshot the Bengals 26 to 21 and won 14 more faceoffs. They were also the first to get on the board after Kate Randazzo found Andrea Noss for the goal. The assist was Randazzo’s team leading fifth assist of the season. The momentum shifted starting in the second period though with Buffalo State’s Erin Gehen finding the back of the net. While the Lakers seemed to regain the momentum in the beginning of the third, a bouncing puck off the stick of a Bengal landing past Oswego’s goalie Mariah Madrigal ended it.
In between the pipes, Madrigal played nearly the entire game for the Lakers and finished with 19 saves.
Oswego will see their next action on Saturday when they travel to Plattsburgh to take on the Cardinals at 3 pm.

Earth Week
Earth Week may be coming to a close, but what did you miss? Quite a bit tobe frank. This past week SUNY Oswego celebrated everything that earth does for us and demonstrated support for environmental protections. This week the campus celebrated and presented the contributions that students and faculty have made thus far in order to preserve our schools beauty and environment.
On Monday we discussed how the removal of plastic and wastes from around campus and the dining halls has genuinely made a big impact on the amount of plastic that is discarded on a day to day basis.
On Tuesday we participated in reducing car usage by being able to use amenities provided to us through the Sustainability office such as bike share where you can rent a bike from the office located in Hewitt and bus share which provided alternate transportation for commuter students.
On Wednesday a climate change panel co-hosted by the Environmental Advisory Council and the Sustainability office discussed the challenges within the concept of climate change which will feature multiple different faculty members all representing a different program of study at Oswego.
On Thursday we focused on using alternate search engines that give back to the planet such as Ecosia which has been using their profits since 2009 to plant trees which has resulted in over 54 million trees being planted. We also focused on our new printing program Lakerprint which is projected to save around 120,000 sheets of paper a year due to getting rid of banner pages and sheets with our names.
However on Friday Lucas Grove a senior philosophy-psychology major will present the progress he has made in the “Fresh Water for All” project.
