OSWEGO — This coming Saturday, Men’s Soccer continues their strong SUNYAC schedule by hosting nationally ranked Cortland at Laker Stadium. The SUNY rivalry between the Lakers and Red Dragons continue with both teams starting off conference play undefeated. Both schools started their SUNYAC campaign playing Brockport and Geneseo, but the Lakers look to have the upper hand due to the two shutouts that were results of stellular goalkeeper work from Brian Terra. Terra recently won his third straight SUNYAC Defensive Player of the Week with his performance this past weekend. Even though the Lakers haven’t beaten the Red Dragons since 2006, they will look towards their defensive play to continue their successful start of conference play. Oswego fans can catch the Men’s Soccer game vs. SUNY Cortland at Laker Stadium along with online, right here at WTOP10.com. Kickoff is at 1 p.m.

Oswego State men’s hockey splits weekend
OSWEGO N.Y. — The Oswego State men’s hockey team split this past weekend in SUNYAC conference play after competing against SUNY Brockport and SUNY Geneseo. The Lakers were able to get the job done on Friday with a win on home ice against the Brockport Golden Eagles. On Saturday, Oswego State traveled to Geneseo and fell after trying to complete the comeback in the third period.
Friday evening, Oswego State welcomed the Golden Eagles of SUNY Brockport into the Marano Campus Center for Senior Night and Pride Night. The Lakers would get the job done against Brockport posting a victory by a score of 7-3 in the Deborah F. Stanley Arena. Oswego State got out to an early lead in the first period with a quick goal from forward Alex DiCarlo. The Golden Eagles would respond with their own two goals to take the lead. Tyler Flack would answer for the Lakers and tie the game with an assist going to sophomore Shane Bull. Goals from Mac Lewis and Tommy Cahill finished the scoring for the Lakers in the first period. The Golden Eagles would net one more before heading into the locker room to round out the first stanza.
Over the course of the next forty minutes, the Golden Eagles would not be able to find the back of the net after a solid performance from the Oswego State defense. Cahill and Flack found the back of the net one more time prior to the end of the contest and defenseman Troy Robillard also found the twine before the completion of the game. In between the pipes for Oswego State, netminder Steven Kozikoski received the win after making a total of 24 saves and only allowing three goals against.
On Saturday, Oswego State loaded up the bus and headed down Interstate 90 to SUNY Geneseo’s campus to play against the number two team in the nation per the USCHO poll. The Lakers would fall in the contest by a score of 4-2 but played a better game against the Ice Knights compared to the contest against Geneseo back in November. Geneseo would score four unanswered goals in the first and second periods to take a commanding lead on home ice. Rocco Andreacchi found the back of the net first for Oswego State and Cahill had another goal on the weekend in the third period. Kozikoski made a total of 34 saves in the lost.
Although the Lakers split the weekend against the Rochester teams, Oswego State moved up in this week’s USCHO poll. In terms of the Pairwise rankings, the Lakers are in tenth and have a good shot at an at-large bid if necessary. In the conference standings, the Lakers are tied with Geneseo for the top spot but Geneseo has a game at hand. Oswego State has three more games left in the regular season before the SUNYAC Championship starts. This Wednesday, Oswego State will travel to Morrisville State to take on the Mustangs for a weekday SUNYAC matchup. Morrisville is currently last in the conference with a total of six points. Game time is set for 7:00 p.m. on Morrisville’s campus. WTOP 10 will continue to provide coverage of the Oswego State men’s hockey team prior to the conclusion of their 2021-22 season.

Oswego women’s soccer secures SUNYAC playoff spot
NEW PALTZ, N.Y. – The Oswego State Women’s Soccer team faced off against the New Paltz Hawks on Saturday afternoon. This game was an important one for the Lakers as they were looking to get into one of the last SUNYAC playoff spots. Oswego would take control to start the first half of the matchup in what was a relatively quiet half of play. That was until Amber Mcdermott Scored first for the Lakers, unassisted at the 29:02 mark to give the Lakers a 1-0 lead. The Lakers held the advantage in the first half beating New Paltz in shots 5-2 and would take a 1-0 lead after one half of play.
In the second half we saw a momentum switch where New Paltz took over. Shortly into the second half, New Paltz would tie the match at 1 from a goal by Gaby Treble at the 48:56 mark. The Hawks would eventually take the lead over the Lakers halfway through the second half from Addison Weiner at the 69:10 mark to take a 2-1 lead over the Lakers. But the Lakers fought back to tie it as graduate transfer Graisa Madde would score the match’s final point, tying the game at 2 with just over 12 minutes remaining in the contest. Both teams could get nothing past the goalkeepers for the rest of the game and it would end in a 2-2 tie in Oswego’s last regular season game.
The Lakers finished their season with a record of 8-5-4, and a conference record of 3-3-3. The Lakers will now turn their focus to the playoffs as they will be the fifth seed. Oswego will take on the Plattsburgh Cardinals at Plattsburgh on October 29th at 1PM in the first round of the SUNYAC playoffs.

Oswego womens lacrosse wins big this weekend
It was a well earned win for the Lakers Saturday afternoon as they skated past the Potsdam Bears with a 19-10 victory. The Lakers had a comfortable lead the whole game as they were already up by four goals at the end of the first quarter. The Lakers kept their foot on the gas in the second with relentless offensive play. At the half the Lakers had a 10-2 lead and this game was pretty much sealed. Sophomore Isabella Lembo was on an absolute tear scoring a whopping eight goals in her incredible performance. She was on fire the whole contest and lead the charge. Sophomore Shae McConnell also had a great performance with five goals in this contest. Despite an attempted comeback from Potsdam in the fourth the game was already sealed. The Lakers are on the road Wednesday as the take on Brockport at 4 p.m.!
