OSWEGO, N.Y. — The Oswego Women’s Lacrosse team won their fourth game of the season on Monday, defeating the Buffalo State Bengals 14-4. This was the Lakers second win of the season versus the Bengals as the won their last matchup 14-6 on April 10th. The Lakers sweep the Bengals to get two wins this season in the SUNYAC West Division.
Oswego snapped a 3-game losing streak with Monday’s victory, something they needed to accomplish in order to keep pace in the West division. It was a back-and-forth game midway through the 1st half. The Lakers lead 3-0 in the opening 5 minutes following goals from Shae McConnell, Erin Lehmann, and leading scorer, Sela WIley. The Bengals then retaliated with 3 goals of their own, tying the game with 12:36 left in the 1st half. However, Buffalo State would never hold a lead in the entire game as they were outscored by Oswego 11-1 at the end of regulation. Wiley had yet another dominant performance on Monday. The sophomore scored 5 goals, bringing her season total to 27, and added an assist on top of that. McConnell also had a hat-trick while Isabella Lembo fell just short, totaling 2 goals and 1 assist. Four other Lakers scored a single goal, including Logan Castiglione, Julia Quirk, Erin Lehmann, and Katie Fierro. Fierro netted her first collegiate goal in the victory.
Oswego improved to 3-2 in SUNYAC play and will look towards their highly anticipated matchup vs SUNY Brockport. The Lakers will look to avenge their blowout loss to the Golden Eagles just a few days ago on April 17th. Oswego lost 22-9 but will have to have a short term memory heading into Wednesday’s matchup. Brockport is on a 7-game winning streak, backed by the outstanding play of leading scorer, Heather Conklin. Conklin has scored a whopping 39 goals this season and had 6 against Oswego in their previous game. The Golden Eagles also have two other players with more than 20 goals, including Cassidy Burnash (24), and Allison Jennings (21). The Lakers will have to play better defensively in order to keep up with Brockport’s high-powered offense. Oswego currently sits in 3rd place in the West division and needs a victory to keep pace with SUNY Geneseo (4-1). Brockport (6-1) has already clinched a playoff berth and will look to continue their great 2021 season on Wednesday. Face off is set for 4:00 PM at Brockport for this SUNYAC West matchup.

Oswego womens lacrosse wins big this weekend
It was a well earned win for the Lakers Saturday afternoon as they skated past the Potsdam Bears with a 19-10 victory. The Lakers had a comfortable lead the whole game as they were already up by four goals at the end of the first quarter. The Lakers kept their foot on the gas in the second with relentless offensive play. At the half the Lakers had a 10-2 lead and this game was pretty much sealed. Sophomore Isabella Lembo was on an absolute tear scoring a whopping eight goals in her incredible performance. She was on fire the whole contest and lead the charge. Sophomore Shae McConnell also had a great performance with five goals in this contest. Despite an attempted comeback from Potsdam in the fourth the game was already sealed. The Lakers are on the road Wednesday as the take on Brockport at 4 p.m.! -
Lakers Win Final Regular Season Game
The SUNY Oswego Women’s Ice Hockey team claimed victory against the William Smith Herons in their final game of the 2025-2026 regular season on February 21st.
The Lakers started out strong, showing great offence with attacking Heron’s net at full force. Lilliana Ficaro and Leah Coley both scored goals just minutes apart to open up the game. Despite that, William Smith would soon answer back just 31 seconds after the Lakers second goal. Goalie Mia DeVivo wasn’t challenged as she only blocked 7 shots compared to William Smith’s goalie, Mia Iwicki who blocked 21 shots on goal from the goal hungry Lakers.
The Lakers would head into intermission being up 2-1.
The second period started off slow with William Smith getting two penalties. William Smith turned up their offense adding 13 shots on net, but DeVivo stood tall between the pipes blocking each and every one of those shots. The Lakers offense really showed out in the second period but failure to connect their passes led to a scoreless second period.
The third period started off with Oswego Leah Cooley in the box for highsticking just over five minutes into the period. The Lakers penalty kill was strong, keeping the team momentum. While another scoreless period for both teams. Mia Devio showed out with a .974 save percentage.
With the 2-1 victory for the Lakers, they moved up to the third seed spot in the SUNYAC’s.
The Oswego Lakers will play their first game in the SUNYAC’s on Saturday February 28th, their opponent has not yet been determined.

Men’s basketball captures big milestone in route to winning tip off tournament
WILLIMANTIC, CT. – The Oswego state men’s basketball team has continued their success from last year with a big tournament win this past weekend The Lakers traveled to Eastern Connecticut for the Tip-Off Tournament on Friday where they first faced the Hobart statesman. Oswego started the game by establishing a 6 point lead late in the first half of play with the help of their solid defensive performance. Hobart would then go on a run and erase the lead, eventually getting a three point lead of their own with 2:42 in the first half. Oswego was not be able to erase the deficit in a very low scoring half and allowed Hobart to hold a 30-25 lead going into halftime.
Oswego would come out alot stronger in the second half and put on an impressive offensive performance. The Lakers would erase a nine-point second half deficit and turn it into a their highest lead of the game by 16 points,. The Lakers ended up winning 65-53 to win game one of their weekend. Oswego would shoot 50% from the field in the second half, converting 17 of 34 field goal attempts and shot 40% from 3pt range, hitting 6 of 15 3-pt field goal attempts. Ahkee Anderson lead the way for the Lakers by scoring 15 points and overall shooting 50% from the field. Jeremiah Sparks led the team in rebounds with 8 and brought the Lakers to the championship Saturday.
The Lakers team faced Eastern Connecticut State Warriors in a back and forth matchup for the championship game of the Tip-Off Tournament on Saturday afternoon. Oswego would come out on fire in the first half shooting lights out with an outstanding 46.4% (13/28) on field goal attempts. But the Lakers couldn’t get the 3pt shots to fall shooting only 20% (2/10) from beyond the arc. The Lakers played some tough defense on the Warriors holding them to only 28.6% on their field goal attempts in the first. Oswego then established a 16 point lead late in the first. However, the Warriors would rally and end the half on a 11-0 run, hitting three consecutive 3-pt shots. Oswego went into halftime leading 32-27 going into halftime. Jamal Achille led the Lakers with 9 points in the first half. New Laker Cartier Bowman lead Oswego on the glass with 7 rebounds and Devin Green and Ahkee Anderson would each add 2 assists going on half.
The Warriors defense in the second half would give them the advantage in the half, causing many Oswego turnovers to start. Oswego would then go ahead and build another double-digit lead early in the half, and the Warriors would go on another 11 point run to give them a 46-45 lead. Despite their struggles offensively early, Oswego would then hit several clutch free throws late to help push them over the Warriors. Oswego would win the tournament in a 60-50 victory over the Warriors. Ahkee Anderson lead the Lakers with 21 points,3 assists and 2 steals. Jeremiah Sparks recorded his first double-double of the season scoring 15 points and grabbing 10 rebounds.
Three Oswego players made the all tournament team with Ahkee Anderson, Jeremiah Sparks and Cartier Bowman making the team. With this win on Saturday, Coach Jason Leone also becomes the winningest coach in Oswego State Basketball History passing Kevin Broderick who coached the Lakers from 1996 until 2009 with a 209-150 record. Leone now stands at the very top of the record book with a 210-78 record in his twelfth year as the Lakers’ Head Men’s Basketball Coach.
