The SUNY Oswego Men’s Ice Hockey team secured a win against the Buffalo State Bengals in their final game of the 2025-2026 regular season on February 21st.
The energy was electric from the second the puck hit the ice to open up the game. The fans in attendance made it known that they were here to cheer. The Lakers offence and defence were strong as the Lakers attacked the net with full force sparing no opportunity for a shot on goal–while goalie Brandon Milberg stood tall between the pipes allowing no goals in. The puck was going back and forth between zones, sharing the love for both teams until Oswego’s Colin Vassallo scored a power play goal assisted by Ryan Burke and Nico Paone with 3:40 left in the first. Buffalo’s Michael Marquez got a penalty after the period ended for roughing to leave the Buffalo State Bengals down a player on the ice to start the second.
Ryan Burke wasted no time and gave the Lakers their second goal of the night assisted by Nico Paone and Colin Vassllo–the same line who scored the first goal of the night. Oswego’s Brent Fudger earned himself a penalty for roughing 2:06 into the second. The penalty kill didn’t seem to faze Milberg in the slightest as he deflected each shot with ease. Adam Grenier scored his third goal of the season and the third goal of the game, allowing Colin Vassallo his second assist of the night. The Lakers enter the third up 3-0.
The third period started off slow until captain Matt McQuade took matters into his own hands with the help of Colin Vassallo and Connor Gatto to give the Lakers their 4th goal of the game. Nearly 2 minutes after his first goal McQuade scored his 11th goal of the season on the power play. Although they were quiet for most of the game, the Bengals finally answered back when Andrew Langlois buried one deep in the net. With 7:14 left in the game Brandon Cohen closes the game out with assists by Jesse Horacek and Colin Vassallo, being his third assist for the night. Brandon Milberg ended his night only allowing 1 of 40 shots past him giving him a .975 save percentage for the night.
The Buffalo State Bengals will return to Oswego on Wednesday February 25th at 7pm to face the Oswego Lakers for the first matchup of the SUNYAC Tournament.

Oswego State men’s soccer team advances to SUNYAC tournament semi-finals
OSWEGO N.Y. — The Oswego State men’s soccer team (#6) defeated the Oneonta Red Dragons (#3) in a 2-1 shootout on Saturday, advancing to the SUNYAC semi-finals. This was the Lakers first win against Oneonta since 1965, ending a 56-year drought.
After falling to Oneonta on senior day just seven days prior, Oswego bounced back on an even bigger stage, earning the team’s first SUNYAC tournament win in Coach Dan Kane’s tenure there. It was a competitive bout from start to finish with Oneonta striking first in the 27th minute to take a 1-0 lead. The score would remain the same until the 64th minute after freshman midfielder Hajoon Lee scored off a pass from Kieran Gilroy. However, that would be the final goal of the game as neither team could find the back of the net throughout the rest of regulation and both overtime periods, forcing a shootout.
Through the first four rounds of the shootout, each player on both teams scored on their attempt. Though in the final round, Oneonta’s Malcom Swett hit the crossbar while sophomore defenseman Brendan Murphy made his attempt. In a match that took more than 110 minutes to declare a winner, the Lakers were able to edge the Red Dragons in a shootout, 5-4.
With their first-round victory, Oswego State will now travel to New Paltz to take on the Hawks in the SUNYAC semi-finals on Wednesday, Nov. 3rd. This will be the second time these two teams have met this season with the first game resulting in a 2-1 New Paltz victory on Oct. 22nd. Oswego will look to bounce back in the same way they did against Oneonta in hopes of advancing to the SUNYAC Championship final. Game time is set for 1:00 p.m.

Men’s soccer wins big over Potsdam
POTSDAM, N.Y. – The Oswego State Men’s soccer team took a trip north to take on SUNYAC foe, the Potsdam Bears. The team was looking to build off the non-conference win over Utica earlier in the week. The Lakers found momentum earlier, getting off four shots on goal in the first ten minutes, the last one finding the back of the net. Nikola Kovacevic put it past the goalie assisted by Caleb Munski. The offense slowed down the rest of the half, though they did get another three shots on goal throughout the remaining 35 minutes, nine shots in total in the half. Potsdam only had three shots in the half, one of them being on target.
The second half was where the Lakers took charge and never looked back. Kieran Gilroy scored not even a minute into the second frame, assisted by Ryan Contreras. The Bears were then given a red card thirty seconds later to bring them down to ten men. The second goal of the half would come not even a minute after the red card, Liam Rothar beating the goalie, assisted by Brendan Murphy. Kyle Gehrich gave the Lakers their fourth goal, just five minutes after the third, this one assisted by Jason Wuytack. Just over a minute later Kilroy Gilroy scored his second of the game, this time assisted by Anastasios Diacovasilas. The Lakers goal onslaught took a twenty minute break, until David Cadet scored the sixth and final goal of the game, assisted by Jean Pierre Moquizilla. Oswego won 6-0 and kept their first shutout of the season, freshman Andre Bourjolly played most of the game in net, with Finnian Costello playing the final 13 minutes.
The Lakers now have a record of 4-5-1 (1-2-1 SUNYAC). Their next matchup is a Wednesday night matchup at home with SUNY Geneseo on October 5.

Broughman and Lakers defeat Cortland
OSWEGO — The Oswego Men’s Hockey team secured their first regular season and SUNYAC win of the year topping Cortland by a score of 4-2. The headliner was the SUNYAC rookie of the week Travis Broughman. Broughman was able to find the back of the net twice while also recording an assist on Tanner Spink’s goal. The forward currently ranks the team in points with three and is looking to move his way up in the lines. Broughman and the No. 6 ranked Lakers travel to Canton for a meeting with the Kangaroos this Friday followed by a meeting with No. 5 ranked Hobart back at the Marano Campus Center Arena for Military Appreciation Night on Saturday.
