Tonight we will feature our second episode of We Go Live!, our new sketch comedy show originated this year by WTOP-10’s Original Productions Department.
Our members come together to brainstorm, write, create and produce these hysterical sketches to make an even better product than last semester. From a strange leprechaun taunting a child to a teenager telling his parents he is adopted, the sketches are creative and humorous.

Lakers Clinch Third Seed For NEWHL Playoffs
The Oswego State women’s ice hockey team swept their home and home series against Cortland after their 4-1 win on Saturday. With the victory, the Lakers clinch the third seed in the NEWHL and move to 10-11-2 overall as well as 6-7-1 in conference action. The Red Dragons drop to 7-14-2 on the season.
Cortland was able to get on the board first when Katie DeVoe slapped one into the back of the net during the second period. It would not take Oswego long to answer though as Jean-Marie Padden was able to send a ricocheting puck past Cortland’s goalie, Rachael Farmer, just five minutes later.
In the third period, the Lakers’ offense was dominant with Olivia Ellis scoring her team-leading eighth goal of the season. Ellis would later assist on the goals from Kate Randazzo and Julieann White.
Cortland’s Farmer played all but 36 seconds in goal while recording 35 saves. Oswego’s Mariah Madrigal spent the entire game in net and stopped 14 shots.
The Lakers will return to action on Friday as they travel to Potsdam to take on the Bears. Puck drop is scheduled for 7 pm.

Oktoberfest in Oswego

From the Polka to the party the first ever Oswego Oktoberfest brought Deutschland to downtown Oswego.
“This is the first time running the Oktoberfest. So this is something that I think a lot of people have been interested in and we’re just putting it together for a fun community event,” said Event Director Chris Jones.
Jones felt that whether people came for the food or the fun. Everyone found something worth staying for.
Jones said, “Honestly I think it’s a little bit of both. For me the fall season’s the best time to eat and you know, we’ve got about three hundred pre-sales on the event. Hopefully with everything looking the way that it is hopefully about five hundred or so.”
Ice-cold local beer topped everyone’s glass while the polka band played on, but the beer wasn’t the only thing that was cold. With temperatures in the forties most individuals camped out. Enjoying some good times as well as some delicious local beer.
“Most of them are New York State breweries. There are seventeen different beers that are going to be on tap in addition to a couple wines and beverages. So there’s a long list, Adirondack, Woodchuck, Davidson brothers, quite a few on there,” said Jones.
The weather was cold but more than 400 turned out for the night’s events.
Jones felt, “This is fall weather, this is what Oktoberfest is about,” and he hopes to re-create the event again next year. And based on the reception from Oswego resident Trish Auer.
“I think, yeah I’d love to see it come back again and definitely more entertainment,” said Auer.
Jones added, “I think that bringing more events into the community and encouraging not only the people that live here to come out, but start getting people to come here from other regions.”
And Auer felt, “I just love it there’s just so much more going on here. This year especially and it’s just so exciting to have everybody out and about.”

Operation HD Upgrade: Complete
Just months ago we began our conversion to high definition quality. After all the hard work from the Diversified team and the WTOP members who helped, our studio has completed its conversion to HD.

On Saturday, October 22 we pulled off the first of our HD broadcasts. Both the women’s and men’s ice hockey game presented the entire crew with the challenge of using equipment that no one was familiar with.

Members will continue to practice on the new equipment with upcoming broadcasts such as our “Media Summit Red Carpet Show” and “Election Night in Oswego” coverage. A goal is to continue to learn how to make sure the live stream is up and running and that the audio during the hockey games is up to par.
After a successful Facebook Live and live Twitter chat about the upgrade, we were able to get followers and viewers attention days before the upgrade was completed. There for the reaction to our first HD broadcast from alumni and viewers via social media was awesome! We appreciate all of those who tuned in for the hockey kickoff.

Now we move onto training week and run through week. “Those who were apart of the hockey broadcasts have a little advantage because they’ve already worked with the new equipment” Taylor Ksiazek, ‘18 says.
