Sullivan receives honorable-mention

OSWEGO — Senior Allison Sullivan of the Oswego State volleyball team has added to her post-season accolades with an honorable mention all-region award, as announced by the American Volleyball Coaches Association this past weekend. This is the first all-region recognition for the middle blocker and fifth in the Lakers’ program history. Sullivan joins Erin Hanlon (2002, 2003) and Ariel Murawski (2015, 2016) as the other Lakers to be selected for this award.  

Sullivan and Lakers take care of business against No. 5 Hobart

OSWEGO — The No. 6 Oswego State men’s ice hockey team defeated No. 5 Hobart by a score of 4-2. Jody Sullivan started the scoring as he crept in past the blue line and punished a wrister past the Statesmen goalie’s right shoulder. Aaron Huffnagle, Anthony Pasero, and Mitch Emerson also tallied a goal apiece in the match. David Richer was strong in the net recording twelve saves while allowing two in the net. The Lakers will travel to Fredonia on Friday for a meeting with the Blue Devils. Puck drops at 7 p.m.

 

Lussier and Women’s Volleyball advance after big win against Brockport

Oswego — The Oswego State Volleyball team came back from a 2-1 deficit to knock off the three-time defending champions Brockport in the opening round of the 2018 SUNYAC Championship Tournament. It’s the first time the Lakers have advanced to the semifinal round since the 2015 season when they defeated Fredonia. Both setters Allison Berger and Julia Flohr each recorded double-doubles and Melissa Lussier led the team in kills with 14 in the contest. The Lakers next match is this Friday in Geneseo for a meeting with New Paltz. First serve is at 4 p.m.

Myers and Paul Owen receive Athlete of the Week

OSWEGO — Each week, students are chosen by the Oswego State Athletics Department as Athlete of the Week. This week, the award was given to Liz Myers of Women’s Soccer and Sean Paul Owen of Men’s Golf. Myers scored the go-ahead goal in the 101st minute to seal the victory last Saturday against Buffalo State. For Sean Paul Owen, he shot a 74 last Saturday and a 71 on Sunday as the Lakers took first place in the Nazareth Invitational.

Women’s Tennis Propels To Victory

OSWEGO — The Oswego State Women’s tennis team edges Cortland by a score of (5-4) yesterday afternoon at the Romney Field House. Samantha Spence and Haru Kobayashi won in both singles and doubles. Eliza Johnson won both of her sets in singles to propel the Lakers to victory. The Lakers return to the court this Sunday at 12 p.m. to take on the Utica Pioneers.
