OSWEGO — The No. 6 Oswego State men’s ice hockey team defeated No. 5 Hobart by a score of 4-2. Jody Sullivan started the scoring as he crept in past the blue line and punished a wrister past the Statesmen goalie’s right shoulder. Aaron Huffnagle, Anthony Pasero, and Mitch Emerson also tallied a goal apiece in the match. David Richer was strong in the net recording twelve saves while allowing two in the net. The Lakers will travel to Fredonia on Friday for a meeting with the Blue Devils. Puck drops at 7 p.m.

Women’s Hockey secures 10th win of the season against Morrisville
OSWEGO, NY — Women’s Hockey defeated Morrisville Wednesday night 4-2 after a third period comeback from the Lakers. Kate Randazzo would get on the board first as Sara Cruise got the assist. This would push Oswego into the lead heading into the second period before the Mustangs netted two back to back goals within 30 seconds of each other. Morrisville would keep the lead into the third period until freshman Megan Teachout got on the board on a delayed penalty. That same powerplay, the Lakers would take the lead thanks to Amber Thomas and then Eryn Stewart would add one minutes later to secure the victory. Senior Rachael Farmer was solid in net as she saved 16 shots and recorded a .889 save percentage. This is the Lakers 10th win of the season as this pushes them above the other conference teams as they still hold the second seed. Oswego heads on the road Saturday to Utica for a 2 p.m. match up.

Oswego State men’s soccer team advances to SUNYAC tournament semi-finals
OSWEGO N.Y. — The Oswego State men’s soccer team (#6) defeated the Oneonta Red Dragons (#3) in a 2-1 shootout on Saturday, advancing to the SUNYAC semi-finals. This was the Lakers first win against Oneonta since 1965, ending a 56-year drought.
After falling to Oneonta on senior day just seven days prior, Oswego bounced back on an even bigger stage, earning the team’s first SUNYAC tournament win in Coach Dan Kane’s tenure there. It was a competitive bout from start to finish with Oneonta striking first in the 27th minute to take a 1-0 lead. The score would remain the same until the 64th minute after freshman midfielder Hajoon Lee scored off a pass from Kieran Gilroy. However, that would be the final goal of the game as neither team could find the back of the net throughout the rest of regulation and both overtime periods, forcing a shootout.
Through the first four rounds of the shootout, each player on both teams scored on their attempt. Though in the final round, Oneonta’s Malcom Swett hit the crossbar while sophomore defenseman Brendan Murphy made his attempt. In a match that took more than 110 minutes to declare a winner, the Lakers were able to edge the Red Dragons in a shootout, 5-4.
With their first-round victory, Oswego State will now travel to New Paltz to take on the Hawks in the SUNYAC semi-finals on Wednesday, Nov. 3rd. This will be the second time these two teams have met this season with the first game resulting in a 2-1 New Paltz victory on Oct. 22nd. Oswego will look to bounce back in the same way they did against Oneonta in hopes of advancing to the SUNYAC Championship final. Game time is set for 1:00 p.m.

Both Men’s and Women’s Hockey start the season off strong
OSWEGO — Hockey is back in Oswego and although they were exhibition matches, the atmosphere was electric. The Lady Lakers took on the London Jr. Devilettes and snuck in two goals late in the third period to secure a come from behind 4-3 win. Later that night, the men’s team took on Nazareth and it was a very physical game. The men scored three goals in the first period to jump out to an early lead and held them scoreless in the last two frames. Tanner Spink led the charge with two goals as the Lakers would pull away with a 5-2 win.
