PITTSFORD, N.Y. – The Lakers took a trip east to take on SUNYAC competitor St. John Fisher cardinals on Tuesday night in a tough 2-1 loss. The Cardinals started the night pushing a fast tempo against the Lakers, but Oswego played very sound defense in the first quarter not letting up any goals. Senior Goalkeeper Erica Scheblein shined while saving 4 shots on goal in the first quarter. In the start of the second quarter the Lakers finally got something going. About four minutes into the second quarter Kacie Simzer would score the only goal of the night for the Lakers at the 19:02 mark assisted by Nancy Pagliaroli. Oswego would control the the rest of the second quarter, testing the defense of St. John Fisher and they would go into halftime with a 1-0 lead.
But Fisher didn’t take too much time to answer back. Just over two minutes in the 3rd Audrey Grieb would get the cardinals on the board with an unassisted goal. Not too long after that Cardinals received a penalty corner in the 35th minute that resulted in the go-ahead and eventually game-winning goal from Sam Choate. Oswego had plenty of chances with penalty corners, however, the Lakers were unable to take advantage the Lakers would need to make something happen offensively in the 4th quarter to get back into the game. St John Fisher then took command of possession in the fourth quarter. The Cardinals landed six shots in the final quarter, with the Lakers only landing one shot in the final two minutes of regulation. Scheblein would finish with ten saves on the night and Simzer would score her team leading 12th goal on the season.
Oswego will now travel to Cortland on Saturday, October 8th for a SUNYAC matchup against the Red Dragons. Oswego will be looking to get their first SUNYAC win of the season, while the Dragons will be looking to remain undefeated at home.

Oswego State Baseball Continues Win Streak Against University of Rochester
OSWEGO, N.Y. — Oswego State Baseball extended their win streak to fourteen games with a doubleheader sweep over University of Rochester on Tuesday, April 27th in a non-conference doubleheader. Oswego was dominant all day long as the Laker bats scored 32 runs total on the day, Oswego won game one 23-7 and completed the sweep with a 9-4 victory in game two.
Oswego scored multiple runs in five of eight innings they came to the plate in game one. Ryan Weiss opened up the scoring on a grand slam in the bottom of the first inning, and Connor Stanton added an RBI single to make it 5-0 before Rochester’s fourth batter stepped to the plate. Eleven Laker batters had at least one hit in game one, and Ryan Enos led the offense in hits as he was 3-4 with three runs and three RBIs. Weiss led with four RBIs all of which came on the grand slam, and Enos and Stanton added three RBIs each. Oswego took game one 23-7 as the bats came out hot to knock off the top ranked Liberty League team 23-7.
Game two featured two hit efforts from five separate Lakers, Paul Tammaro, Brendon Frank, Kyle Lauria, Hunter Holliday, and Frank Levanti. Two RBIs apiece were also added by Tammaro, Frank, Lauria and Weiss on his second home run of the day. Jake Terrill got the start in game two and the Graduate Student pitched very well, going six innings allowing four hits and two earned runs. Oswego took game two 9-4 to extend the win streak to fourteen games and complete the seventh straight doubleheader sweep.
Oswego baseball returns to Laker Baseball Field Saturday, May 1st at 1:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. against SUNYAC West opponent Fredonia. The Lakers will look to their momentum to continue their dominance in the conference division.

Oswego womens lacrosse wins big this weekend
It was a well earned win for the Lakers Saturday afternoon as they skated past the Potsdam Bears with a 19-10 victory. The Lakers had a comfortable lead the whole game as they were already up by four goals at the end of the first quarter. The Lakers kept their foot on the gas in the second with relentless offensive play. At the half the Lakers had a 10-2 lead and this game was pretty much sealed. Sophomore Isabella Lembo was on an absolute tear scoring a whopping eight goals in her incredible performance. She was on fire the whole contest and lead the charge. Sophomore Shae McConnell also had a great performance with five goals in this contest. Despite an attempted comeback from Potsdam in the fourth the game was already sealed. The Lakers are on the road Wednesday as the take on Brockport at 4 p.m.! -
Oswego State Men’s Lacrosse Prepares for Geneseo
OSWEGO, N.Y. — After a 12-5 loss versus Brockport on April 16, the Oswego State Men’s Lacrosse team looks to find their first win of the condensed 2021 season with a battle against the Geneseo Knights. Although the Lakers have not won a game this season, they hold the record in history against the knights with 22 wins and 21 losses with the first matchup being in 1980. This will be the first game of a home and home series against Geneseo as they are scheduled to play the Knights on Saturday, April 24 at the College Stadium in Geneseo.
The history between these two teams have been extra competitive with their last matchup being in 2019 due to the cancelled season in 2020 and yielding a Knights win by a score of 14 to 13 despite a second half 10 goal push by the Lakers. Oswego is 2-8 since 2010 versus Geneseo in general and 10-11 at home against the Knights in history. As the Lakers look to salvage what is left of their season with three games remaining, they will turn to freshman midfielder Lucas Cloch who leads the team in points with 6 goals and 4 assists as well as rely on the man in between the pipes Kevin O’Donnell. The senior looks to stay strong to wrap up his career at Oswego State with 55 saves already on the season. Today’s SUNYAC West division matchup is set for 4:00 p.m. at the Laker Turf Stadium with WTOP 10 covering all the action from today’s contest.
