The Lakers got the game started with Lauria hitting a 3-run homerun and Felton adding his own in the second inning. Clarkson once again were alive innings later as the Golden Knights tallied seven runs over the course of the fourth and fifth inning. It was a tough go around for the Lakers this time as they split the double header (1-1) as well as the overall series this season (2-2). Brockport would take the first game in dominant fashion with a 8-1 victory and Oswego would edge the Golden Eagles in a last inning thriller with a final of 7-6.
The first game was all Brockport with 4 runs in the 3rd inning alone and up 5-0 by the third inning. It was pretty straight forward for the Golden Eagles, generating 8 hits and putting in 8 runs in the first matchup with 2nd baseman Cameryn Duggan leading the way with 3 runs of her own. Oswego’s Taylor Dubois was the only Laker to generate a run as she hit a homerun and now has 3 on her career as a Laker. Things got extra interesting at the end of the second game as Brockport has the bases loaded with zero outs when trailing 7-5. However, Oswego was able to keep the Golden Eagles partially at bay with a force out at home, a throwout on an RBI-single as well as a fly out to end the game.
The Lakers now move to 7-11 on the season as well as 5-9 in the division, Brockport now remains at .500 winning percentage in both the SUNYAC West as well as overall as they remain at 6-6. The Blue Devils came into the port city looking for their first SUNYAC win of the season and were left short. Oswego State would sweep the Blue Devils with scores of 17-6 and 9-2 and improved to 11-1 in the division.
The Lakers were led in game one by Dylan Frawley who was 3-4 at the plate and had four runs scored as well as a pair of RBI’s. The Lakers now have a chance to make history as they are two wins away from setting the program record for consecutive wins at 18 that was set back in 1982. Oswego will attempt to achieve this with a double header vs Clarkson University on Tuesday May 4th at 1:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. Oswego already swept the Golden Knights once this season and have won their last 7 as well. OSWEGO, N.Y. — The Lakers Baseball team rolls into Saturday to start the month of May with a doubleheader series against the Fredonia Blue Devils. These two teams are on different ends of the spectrum when it comes to success and failure as Oswego is coming in on a 14 game winning streak after sweeping the University of Rochester successfully at the beginning of this week with scores of 23-7 and 9-4. As for the Blue Devils, the group has struggled this season by not winning a single game in the SUNYAC. The last time the Blue Devils squad won a SUNYAC matchup was April 21st of 2019. Their only wins this season come in the non conference doubleheader with two of their three being in their most recent contest vs Alfred State.
Things look pretty optimistic for the Oswego State Lakers as they have not lost to Fredonia on their home field since the 2011 season. Fredonia has lost 10 of the previous 11 meetings and their last win came in 2018 on a neutral site at Lake Myrtle Park with the Blue Devils edging the Lakers 6-5. However this season has been all Oswego, winning all four of their meetings and the Lakers outscoring the Devils 50-19 in those four matchups.
As Fredonia looks to find their first SUNYAC win in over a year as well as continue their 2 game winning streak, the Lakers will plan to push their streak to 15 games and potentially 16 with a sweep. In the last matchup on April 20th, Oswego State jumped out early with a 5-0 lead after the first inning and would gradually increase their lead as the game went on with a 10-5 victory. All eyes will be on Oswego’s offense who are currently averaging almost 12 runs per game as well as Ryan Weiss who had two home runs, one of them being a grand slam in their last double header against Rochester. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m. for the first game and 3 p.m. for the second at the Laker Baseball Field.

BROCKPORT, N.Y. — Oswego State Softball heads to the road this weekend, eager to steal 4 crucial SUNYAC West division points against a familiar foe in the Brockport Golden Eagles. Oswego has gotten the best of Brockport and most of their recent matchups, winning 8 of 10 matchups since the 2016 season. However for this doubleheader, it will be crucial Oswego are able to complete a sweep to jump over Brockport in the standings to make a last minute push for a playoff spot. The Lakers are currently last in the SUNYAC West Standings.
In their last meeting almost a month ago, the Lakers were able to split the doubleheader with Brockport with lots of offense in their win and very little in the loss. Oswego would lose their first game of the series 5-2 but were able to bounce back with a convincing win 9-3 and Zoe Mennig and Madelana Wrubel contributed with two runs a piece. It will be a battle for the Lakers nonetheless as they have not swept the Golden Eagles on their home field since April of 2017.
As for Brockport they have been fairly 50/50 with going 3-3 in their last 6 as well as going 5-5 currently on the entire season including the SUNYAC. Brockport will look to rely on names such as Olivia Hayden to carry the offense as she leads the team in hits as well as runs. It sure should be a good one at the Clark V. Whited Complex in Brockport as two teams try and push for that two seed in the West Division through the fading stretch of the season, first pitch scheduled for 12 p.m. for the first game and 2 p.m. for game two.

The Knights were able to jump out early with three different RBI’s which led to 5 runs in the second inning that would eventually seal the fate of Oswego State in the first game. Moving on to the second matchup of the day, once again it was Geneseo’s offense striking early. As for Geneseo, they improve to 9-4 on the season and remain at the top of the SUNYAC West division. Gray was able to snap his offensive slump throughout the past few games as he led the way in scoring with 5 goals and 1 assist for a total of 6 points and set his career high in goals and points in an individual game for his college career.
The Lakers now fall to 0-5 on the season and look to rebound on Saturday for a potential first win of the season against the same team but this time down in Geneseo. As for the Knights, they now improve to 3-3 on the season and 3-1 in the conference and are currently tied for first place in the west division. OSWEGO, N.Y. — After a 12-5 loss versus Brockport on April 16, the Oswego State Men’s Lacrosse team looks to find their first win of the condensed 2021 season with a battle against the Geneseo Knights. Although the Lakers have not won a game this season, they hold the record in history against the knights with 22 wins and 21 losses with the first matchup being in 1980. This will be the first game of a home and home series against Geneseo as they are scheduled to play the Knights on Saturday, April 24 at the College Stadium in Geneseo.
The history between these two teams have been extra competitive with their last matchup being in 2019 due to the cancelled season in 2020 and yielding a Knights win by a score of 14 to 13 despite a second half 10 goal push by the Lakers. Oswego is 2-8 since 2010 versus Geneseo in general and 10-11 at home against the Knights in history. As the Lakers look to salvage what is left of their season with three games remaining, they will turn to freshman midfielder Lucas Cloch who leads the team in points with 6 goals and 4 assists as well as rely on the man in between the pipes Kevin O’Donnell. The senior looks to stay strong to wrap up his career at Oswego State with 55 saves already on the season. Today’s SUNYAC West division matchup is set for 4:00 p.m. at the Laker Turf Stadium with WTOP 10 covering all the action from today’s contest.
OSWEGO, N.Y. — A few months ago, a high school hockey season for the Oswego Buccaneers seemed very unlikely. However with a quick announcement allowing high schools to begin practices, the condensed season was going to occur and at a very rapid pace.
Oswego started off their season caught off guard by facing opponents they typically do not square off against but did this year due to the new COVID-19 enforced divisions based on location and not school size. Through the month of February, the Bucs would get three wins but also dealt six losses with two of them against a well known Division II favorite in Section III, the Skaneateles Lakers who went 14-0-2 this season.
It was a quick turn around in March as Oswego was able to win their first four games of the month convincingly outscoring their opponents 22 to 4 in those four matchups, as well as earning five wins and receiving only two losses in March. When head coach Kevin Ahern was asked what were some possible factors in the turnaround he did not hesitate.
“We have settled into some of the systems that we’re trying to implement… our puck movement has gotten much better, our d-zone has tightened up, and our goaltending is playing well,” Kevin Ahern said.
It was bittersweet for 6 seniors at the end of the season as they were fortunate enough to have a season but bid farewell to their high school hockey careers and home games at what they know as “The Fort”. With a large veteran core coming back, including eleven seniors in 2022; look for the Buccaneers to be hungry for a potential deep playoff run in Section III this upcoming season with their young determination and depth.
