The Oswego State women’s ice hockey team tied Plattsburgh 2-2 on Saturday. With the tie, the Lakers are now 8-11-2 overall and 4-7-1 in conference play while the Cardinals move to 17-2-2 on the season and 11-0-1 in the NEWHL. The game also marks the first time Oswego has not lost to Plattsburgh at home.
After allowing five goals in the first period Friday night, the Lakers defense held Plattsburgh to a single shot for the first ten minutes of the contest. During that time, Olivia Ellis scored her team leading seventh goal of the season to give Oswego an early lead. The Cardinals were able to fight their way back into the game with multiple power play opportunities due to the Lakers’ miscues. On the brink of defeat, Oswego’s Victoria Blake sent the puck sailing past the leg of Plattburgh’s goalie, Brooke Wolejko to tie the game up with just 17 seconds left.
The Lakers will head to Cortland on Friday as part of a home and home series. Puck drop is scheduled for 2 pm.

Student Association Update: March 1st
The Student Association held their weekly meeting of the Senate on Tuesday evening making it the sixth meeting of the Spring semester. The number of senators required to begin the meeting were met and following the approval of the agenda and minutes, the meeting was well under way.
The National Alliance of Black School Educators (NABSE), were the first and only guests to the Senate for the evening. NABSE is a community service driven organization, working to bring awareness to inequalities of education. Their first project will be shipping school supplies to underprivileged children in Haiti and will be tabling every Tuesday in the Marano Campus Center to raise money and collect supplies. They are also looking to hold educational programs that shed light on the mission of their club, but NABSE do not currently have the funds to support the programs they wish to hold. They presented their budget to the Senate asking for funds to help with funds the organization needs. Two senators will be writing a budget and bill, which will be voted on at a later time and date.
Following the guest to the Senate, the meeting moved swiftly to executive reports. Emily Nassir, SA President was the first to deliver her executive report in which she shared updates on current projects she has been working on. Nassir said that the website for SA is currently being worked on and she will have more updates as there is more progression in the making and launching of the new SA website. SA has paid for the student discount app which will be renewed shortly and will give students access to partnered businesses in town, who provide discounts to students at their place of operation. Nassir also revealed new ideas that she wishes to begin working on such as, getting more involved in opening week on campus in the fall, as well as homecoming held in October.
Shelby Gallaro, SA Vice President was next to deliver her executive report. Gallaro shared with Senate her current project. She is working in a new Pay policy for senators which could potentially go into effect in the fall. This new pay system would allow senators to directly earn money as opposed to the current system which is done through dock pay. Following Gallaro’s report, SA Director of Finance, Matthew Peters took the floor to deliver his executive report. Peters stated that all of the requested budgets for next semester have been submitted by the clubs and organizations on campus. SA will begin to look through the requested budgets and will be working on them starting the beginning of next week. There were no new updates on OzFest, but Peters assured that he will be updating the Senate as new information comes in and planning progresses.
In Hall Council reports, senators shared success of programs their halls held this past week as well as plans for new programs in the future. Cayuga Hall had a great turnout for their movie themed laker night. Funnelle hosted a recycling event “Going Green for Green”, in which they collected many recyclables which will be used to help future programs in their hall. Johnson is currently working on their event with all four lakeside dorms, where students will be able to participate in intramural sports as a friendly competition between all the halls. Johnson will be bringing new updates as planning for the event advances.
There were no special orders for the evening, so the meeting moved to the first and only general order for the evening. Rules and judiciary proposed a bill that would amend the vacancy protocol in the constitution that SA is required to follow. The bill to amend the vacancy protocol passed by general consent.
Following the only general order for the evening, the meeting was adjourned. SA meets every Tuesday in Lanigan 106 at 6pm. If students, organizations or clubs have any questions, concerns or proposals, they are encouraged to attend these meetings, as they are all open to the public.

What’s to Come After Going HD?
Now that we’ve gone over what exactly “going HD” means, let’s take a look at what’s going to happen once the conversion process is complete at the end of October.
Immediately after the upgrade is complete members will be putting on some of our biggest broadcasts of the semester. V.P. of Productions Ian Dwyer ‘17, is excited to have the opportunity to make these broadcasts happen in high definition as opposed to standard definition, “Getting a chance to debut our new HD studio to the campus and the community with these first big broadcasts is really going to be rewarding; they are the first HD broadcasts we are going to do here at WTOP!”
These broadcasts that Ian is talking about are the Media Summit Red Carpet Show, the Presidential Election, and Whiteout. The Media Summit Red Carpet Show will broadcast live October 27, 2016 right before the annual Dr. Lewis B. O’Donnell Media Summit. Last year the summit was hosted by WTOP alumni KSNT News’ weekend meteorologist Christina Reis ‘16 and one of NewsChannel 9’s producers, Robert Hackford ‘16. They had the opportunity to discuss the panelists and the year’s theme, equality and diversity in the media.

Christina Reis ‘16 and Rob Hackford ‘16, discuss the theme of last year’s summit with Senior Event Director Kalie Hudson ’16
Following the Media Summit Red Carpet Show, a little over a week later will be our Presidential Election broadcast. This broadcast is going to be massive- Ian Dwyer says that it will be the most involved production of the year, with the aim of pulling off a four hour live broadcast airing from 8 p.m. until midnight.
“[We hope to have] live guests in the studio as well as reporters doing live shots from each of the campaign offices locally in town and Syracuse,” Dwyer adds. This means all hands on deck with a full crew in the studio and additional members out in CNY reporting live to pull off this broadcast.
With the excitement building for a semester of new productions, Sports Director Morgan Rumpf ‘17 is most excited to see all the advancements the HD upgrade is going to give to WTOP-10 TV’s broadcasts. Rumpf added that the sports department is in a unique position because they are still putting on live sports broadcasts despite no other production going on, “Before the upgrade is complete the Sports Department has put on 11 broadcasts since September 1, 2016 using our mobile cart unit, with many more still to come.” “We are so fortunate that WTOP has allowed us a way to continue to broadcast fall sports; Volleyball, Field Hockey and Soccer while the upgrade takes place”, Rumpf says.
Whiteout weekend, which is happening a little later, February 3-4, 2017, will be another major broadcast happening in HD. This gives everyone a little break with the craziness that will ensue at the end of October and early November with two huge broadcasts happening. Whiteout is the biggest broadcast of the year for the sports department, it brings together the community and Oswego State students; even alumni come back to Oswego to watch the epic rivalry between the Oswego and Plattsburgh.

I think V.P. of Productions Ian Dwyer speaks for all members when he says: “I can’t wait to see the communities reaction to our new and improved HD station. The broadcasts that we will be putting on will be the best WTOP has ever seen.”
