The Oswego State Lakers jumped out to an early lead and ever looked back defeating Ithaca 99-73. Kyle Covley lead the way for the Lakers with 21 points on the night. Coveley was 6-8 from behind the arc.
Oswego had 15 three-pointers in the game, two away from the team’s all-time high of 17 in a game.
Leading the way for Ithaca with 18 points a piece were Frank Mitchell and Tom Sweeney.
Oswego improved to 2-1 on the season while Ithaca fell to 1-2.

Filmmaker and Environmental activist to headline 11th annual Global Awareness Conference

OSWEGO, N.Y.– Fulbright Scholar and TED fellow Shalini Kantayya, a filmmaker and eco-activist will be making a free public keynote presentation at SUNY Oswego. Kantayya, whose film “Catching the Sun” was nominated for the Environmental Media Association Award for Best Documentary, has lectured at universities such as Princeton, Yale, and Stanford.
Kantayya will be presenting at The 2017 Hart Hall Global Awareness Conference. The theme this year will be “A Drop of Life – Water Crisis, Catching the Sun – Renewable Energy & Breakthrough: How Innovations Would Change the World”.
“Catching the Sun” was nominated for the 2016 Environmental Media Association Award for Best Documentary and has been translated in 35 languages.
Kantayya’s film “A Drop of Life” was used as a tool to organize for water rights in 40 villages across Africa, making a real-world impact in the lives of thousands.
The presentation will be held at 7 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 4, in Sheldon Hall ballroom for the 11th annual Hart Hall Global Awareness Conference.

Hamilton’s Power Plays Haunt Lakers
The Oswego State women’s ice hockey team lost to the Hamilton Continentals by a score of 3-0. With the loss, the Lakers fall to 5-7 overall while also seeing their two game win streak come to an end. The Continentals move to 5-2 on the season.
Offensively, Oswego mustered only 16 shots with three of their defensemen, Natalie Giglio, Madison Byrne and Philomena Teggart each putting up two. On the few scoring opportunities the team did have though, they could not capitalize as they missed open looks and pucks in front of the net.
Penalties and power play opportunities decided the outcome between these two teams with Hamilton making the best of their chances. Of the three goals scored by the Continentals, all three came on the power play.
With the Lakers’ starting goalie Mariah Madrigal still day-to-day with an injury, Amber Samonek played the entire game in net, stopping 22 shots. Continentals’ Sam Walther continued her dominant play shutting out her opponent for the third consecutive game.
Oswego will be back in action on January 7, 2018 when they take on Utica College at the Marano Campus Center Ice Arena. Puck drop is scheduled for 3 pm.
