The Oswego State Lakers jumped out to an early lead and ever looked back defeating Ithaca 99-73. Kyle Covley lead the way for the Lakers with 21 points on the night. Coveley was 6-8 from behind the arc.
Oswego had 15 three-pointers in the game, two away from the team’s all-time high of 17 in a game.
Leading the way for Ithaca with 18 points a piece were Frank Mitchell and Tom Sweeney.
Oswego improved to 2-1 on the season while Ithaca fell to 1-2.

Women’s hockey player Jacquelin White named ECAC West Rookie of the Week

Jacquelin White of the Oswego State Women’s Hockey team has been named the Eastern College Athletic Conference Women’s West Rookie of the Week for the second time this year. The first time she earned the award was three weeks ago.
White is a big reason the Lakers find themselves at 6-0 on the season and 4-0 in conference play. The freshman has scored a point in every game thus far, giving her a six game point streak to start her college career. This past weekend, White had two goals and one assist against Cortland.
The Lakers will return to the ice this weekend and head to North Country to take on the reigning Division Three National Champions, the Plattsburgh Cardinals. The Lakers and Cardinals face off at 3 p.m. on both Saturday and Sunday.

Lakers Come Up Short Against Brockport
The Oswego State men’s basketball team suffered a 69-67 loss against Brockport Friday night. With the loss, the Lakers drop to 12-12 on the season and 9-8 in the conference while the Golden Eagles move to 18-6.
Oswego struggled on offense in the first half, shooting just 1-of-9 from three point range and 25% from the field. Those struggles along with Brockport shooting 56% from beyond the arc led to the Golden Eagles taking an eleven point lead into halftime. The Lakers would find themselves within a single possession in the second half but were unable to capitalize.
Jamir Ferebee led the Lakers’ comeback effort with 22 points including 15 in the second half. Tyler Pierre contributed 14 points and 10 rebounds to earn a double double.
Oswego will close out the regular season on Saturday against Geneseo at 3:00 pm. As part of Senior Day, the team will honor Ferebee, Ivey, Schupp and Louis Avellino.

2nd Annual “Outrun Autism” 5K and Breakfast

Oswego, NY- April is Autism Awareness Month. The Oswego County Autism Task Force hosted their 2nd Annual 5K and fundraiser to kick off the month on Apr. 2.
Over 160 runners, walkers, and supporters lined up on E 1st St., just outside the Press Box Restaurant at 8:30 AM the 5K. The race’s three mile route worked its way through Oswego’s East Side and Fort Ontario area.
In addition to the race, there was a “Breakfast of Autism Champions” buffet provided by the Press Box for anyone making a $10 donation.
All proceeds from the 5K and breakfast benefited the Oswego County Autism Task Force, an organization that supports autism awareness and creates possibilities for those affected by autism.
The event brought together families and residents of all ages. who have a personal connection with Autism Spectrum Disorder.
““It’s near and dear to my heart,” Special Education Teacher Elisabeth Haight said. “Last year my daughter and I ran, but this year we decided to volunteer and cheer on the racers.”
Race Director Julia Chetney’s son was diagnosed with autism and started the 5K last year.
“There wasn’t a lot of events that support the autism community,” she said. “I was really excited to be a part of this community and this event…People are really excited about it, and grateful.”
