OSWEGO, NY — The Oswego Boys Buccaneers hockey team returns home after a weeklong road trip. The team was able to collect four wins which featured two shutouts and a few closer contests in which Oswego was able to outscore their opponents. The road trip started with a 7-0 win over Ontario Bay and ended down in Auburn with a 5-3 victory over the Maroons. During the week, the Bucs traveled to Fulton to face off against the rival Red Raiders on Wednesday, March 3rd. The team took a day off and then traveled to Syracuse to battle Liverpool. The 7-0 win featured an offensive performance as Oswego was able to continue to put pucks in the back of the net. Brandon Demling collected all four wins for Oswego in between the pipes and allowed only four goals over the course of the week.
Kevin Ahern and the rest of the coaching staff now get the team set for three games to complete the 2021 season. All the contests will be played in the Crisafulli Ice Rink located at Fort Ontario. The 7-6 Buccaneers welcome in the Syracuse Cougars Thursday night for a special Teal Game match up. The Division I team out of Syracuse has had a solid season so far and ends their 2021 schedule in Oswego. Friday night, Cazenovia will play their fifth game of the season against the Buccaneers. The away team has had a shorter schedule due to the COVID-19 pandemic but will do battle against the Buccaneers. Oswego will close out their season against Watertown IHC Saturday night. Watertown has only played one game so far this season and Saturday is the last day of the Section III Hockey season. All puck drops are set for 7 p.m. and games will be broadcasted over the WNYO airwaves. Oswego womens soccer continues to dominate with win over Potsdam
OSWEGO, N.Y. – It was another day at the office for the Lakers as they tool it to the Potsdam Bears from start to finish. The Lakers came out swinging early and did not take their foot off the gas the whole game. Freshman Briana Winkler put the Lakers on the board early as she has made a huge impact on the team in her first year as a Laker. From there it was a bit of a back and forth battle until the end of the half. The second half is where things picked up for the Lakers as Katie Delgrosso put the Lakers up 2-0. With five goals on the season already, Delgrosso has been on an absolute tear. Potsdam just couldn’t do anything to halt the Lakers momentum as Lexi Thompson scored the third and final goal of the game for the Lakers, putting the contest away. The Lakers outshot the Bears 17-6 putting on an offensive clinic. The Lakers look to keep the hot streak rolling as they travel to Geneseo to take on the nights in a SUNYAC matchup this Wednesday. Men’s Hockey rolls through Roos
OSWEGO, NY — Men’s Hockey returned home Saturday night after taking a lost in Cortland the night before. Oswego welcomed in the Canton Roos into the Marano Campus Center as the Lakers are 11-0 all time against the Roos. Canton came into the game 9-5 overall as Oswego was 8-8. The Lakers would finish the 1st period with four goals as freshman Alex DiCarlo tallied a goal and 3 assists in the game as he buried the second Laker goal on the Powerplay. Senior Michael Gillespie also tallied four points in the win. Netminder Steven Kozikoski secured his first career colligate win as he recorded 19 saves after only allowing two goals in the game. The Lakers would come away with an 8-2 victory to stay undefeated against the Roos.
Oswego looks ahead to a road trip to the north country this coming weekend as the Lakers have two SUNYAC match ups. Plattsburgh will be the first task Friday night before traveling to Potsdam the following evening. Plattsburgh recently tied Geneseo on the road as the Cardinals sit at 3-4-2 in conference play. Potsdam sits directly below Plattsburgh as the Bears have a conference record of 3-7-1. Puck drop is at 7 p.m. in Plattsburgh Friday night.

Men’s basketball dominates Red Dragons on senior day
OSWEGO, N.Y. – The Lakers men’s basketball team looked to continue their win streak to 17 this past weekend when they hosted the Cortland Red Dragons for senior night on Saturday evening. The first half ended up being controlled by the Lakers but Cortland held Oswego tough in the first half. After the first ten minutes the score was 13-10 Lakers until Jamal Achille became the offensive spark for Oswego and started a Laker 6-0 where lone senior Devin Green chipped in and added four points over that same stretch. After that run the Lakers exploded on offense going on a 41-18 run the last 10 minutes of the first half shooting similarly from the field and from three-point range (58.06% FG%, 58.33% 3PT%). Oswego got out ahead and had a 54-28 at the half.Cortland tried to start off the half stronger as reigning SUNY-AC player of the year Austin Grunder made a couple big shots to start for the red dragons. But it wouldn’t last long as Kaleb Cook took over during a four-minute stretch during the second half, scoring ten points, while Cortland could only get 4. By that point Cortland couldn’t get anything to go and Oswego would cruise to a 102-62 for their 7th game over 100 points in this season. The Lakers also keep their 17 game streak alive, not losing since the loss to Brockport at home in December. Jeremiah Sparks and Devin Green both had 14 points for the game in a great shooting game for Oswego, but the game was led on Oswego’s side by Kaleb Cook, whose ten point outburst in the second half helped him score 16 for the game. Cortland’s Austin Grunder ended up with another double double in this game and was the only Cortland player that was a positive in this game leading all scorers with 24. Oswego’s bench outscored the Red Dragons 47-18. and the Lakers dominated in the paint beating Cortland 48-10.
Coach Leone gets his 300th career win as a coach and the Lakers move to 21-2,(15-1 SUNYAC). The men’s team will travel to Brockport, NY to face Brockport on Friday, February 17 in a revenge game as Brockport was Oswego’s only previous SUNYAC loss.
