OSWEGO, N.Y. — The Oswego Women’s Lacrosse team is set to play their second non-conference game of the season, taking on the Clarkson University Golden Knights on Wednesday, April 14th. The Lakers won their previous non-conference game vs Morrisville State in a 20-14 victory.
Oswego is coming off their first loss of the season, so they’ll look to rebound vs the Golden Knights. They were defeated by the Geneseo Knights 22-9 on April 12th, which dropped them to 3rd in the West division. Clarkson is entering the matchup on a four-game losing streak, with their most recent loss being a 5-11 defeat to William Smith College. Lakers leading scorer, Sela Wiley, will look to continue her hot streak vs Clarkson. She’s totaled 18 goals on the season and has a .500 shot percentage in 2021. Freshman midfielder, Shae McConnell, will also look to continue her stellar start as she has 13 goals and 2 assists this season. Though, they’ll have to contend the explosive Clarkson offense. The Golden Knights will be lead by junior midfielder and leading scorer, Grace Hagberg, who’s totaled 13 goals. Senior attack, Krysten Stone, is also having a great season. She leads the team in total points, including 11 goals and 5 assists. Oswego is 12-11 all-time vs Clarkson University, however the Golden Knights won their last matchup 9-5 in 2020. Faceoff is set for 4:00 PM at Laker Turf Stadium.

Oswego State Men’s Lacrosse Ends 2021 Season Winless
CORTLAND, N.Y. — The Oswego Men’s Lacrosse team lost their final game of the season on Friday falling to the Cortland Red Dragons 16-5. This is the Lakers second loss to the Red Dragons in 2021 and their seventh loss of the season. This contest wraps up the 2021 season for the Lakers, the first year that the program will go winless. With the win, Cortland will take the number one seed in the west division after finishing the season with a 5-1 conference record.
Cortland was dominant from the opening faceoff, scoring the first 6 goals of the game, including four first quarter goals by attackman, Dante Yacovone. Oswego freshman midfielder, Lucas Cioch, got the Lakers on the board following a second quarter goal, however, they were unable to keep pace with Cortland’s explosive offense. Three other Lakers scored in Friday’s contest, including Ryan Dumont (2), Ryan Eccles (1), and Tyler Stevenson (1). Senior goalkeeper, Kevin O’Donnell, ended his collegiate career on a high note, totaling a career high 27 saves, bringing his season total to 125. With this loss, Oswego drops to 0-7 on the season and finishes last place in the SUNYAC West division.
It was an unfortunate season for the Oswego Men’s Lacrosse team to say the least. The first two games of the season were cancelled due to Covid regulations, so the Lakers weren’t able to get off to a hot start. Junior attackman, Weston Gray, lead the team in goals with 9 and added 4 assists in 2021. Oswego went into a reduced season with an extremely young roster and while they may not have won, they will continue to develop their talented players to compete in the future.

Women’s Hockey ties with Cortland
CORTLAND, NY — Women’s Hockey played another NEWHL game this evening as the Lakers tied the Cortland 2-2 in Red Dragon’s territory. Both teams were scoreless in the 1st period before the Red Dragons got on the board five minutes into the 2nd period. The Lakers would answer as freshman Megan Teachout snapped one past the Cortland goalie for her 8th goal of the season. Senior Eryn Stewart would tally the assist for her 12th assist on the season. Cortland would take the lead at the end of the 2nd period before Eryn Stewart scored in the 3rd period to force the tie. Senior Rachael Farmer would post 22 saves for a .917 save percentage in the tie.
The Lakers stay two points ahead of Cortland and Potsdam for second place in the NEWHL standings. Oswego travels to Potsdam this Saturday for an afternoon game on the road. Puck drop is set for 3 p.m.

Mens Baseball Sweeps Fredonia in Weekend Action
ROCHESTER, NY – It was a successful weekend for the Lakers as they convincingly beat the Fredonia Blue Devils in both of their encounters this weekend. Game won was nothing short of a blowout that saw the Lakers dominate Fredonia with a final score of 12-1. The momentum was in favor of the Lakers from the start as they truly dominated this game. Fredonia would score their only run of the game in the top of the second inning. Senior Colin Williams was on fire this game as he finished with one run and two RBI’s. It really was a team effort however as the Lakers were firing on all cylinders from start to finish. The Lakers looked to take this momentum into the next day where they had a rematch against the Blue Devils.The Lakers kept the momentum rolling the next day when they knocked off Fredonia for the second time. This game was a lot closer and saw both teams fighting hard for a victory. The Lakers started off hot scoring three runs in the bottom of the first inning. The Blue Devils weren’t going to let history repeat itself as they bounced right back tying the game in the third. The Lakers then went on to score three more runs and the game looked like it was shaping up to be another Lakers victory. Fredonia was not done however as they came right back and scored three more runs to tie the game at six. After this the game got out of hand with the Lakers completely taking over. Freshman Emil Sander would score the Lakers final run to give them a five run victory as the Lakers completed the weekend sweep. The Lakers look to keep this momentum rolling as they head to New Paltz this Friday at 3pm.
