OSWEGO — The Lakers took the nationally ranked Oneonta to double OT when Witman Hernandez, leading scorer in SUNYAC, put the Red Dragons on top. In the 2-1 loss, Laker Jack Van Pelt got the lone goal off a free kick from sophomore Caleb Munski. Throughout play, Oswego defense blocked multiple Oneonta shots along with goalie Brian Terra’s five saves. The Lakers look to split the weekend with a game against New Paltz today. The team will honor their graduating class as this will be the regular season game at Laker Stadium.

Men’s Soccer Preview of Match up against Ranked Cortland
OSWEGO — This coming Saturday, Men’s Soccer continues their strong SUNYAC schedule by hosting nationally ranked Cortland at Laker Stadium. The SUNY rivalry between the Lakers and Red Dragons continue with both teams starting off conference play undefeated. Both schools started their SUNYAC campaign playing Brockport and Geneseo, but the Lakers look to have the upper hand due to the two shutouts that were results of stellular goalkeeper work from Brian Terra. Terra recently won his third straight SUNYAC Defensive Player of the Week with his performance this past weekend. Even though the Lakers haven’t beaten the Red Dragons since 2006, they will look towards their defensive play to continue their successful start of conference play. Lakers Wrangle Mustangs in Dominant Offensive Performance
MORRISVILLE, NY- The Lakers winning streak to start the season continues at three in a row after wrangling the Morrisville Mustangs 21-5.The first half was an offensive show for the Lakers as the Lakers scored 15 points in the first half. It didn’t take very long at all for the Lakers to score as they scored 47 seconds into the game as Isabella Lembo scored unassisted. Madison Davis and Isabella Lembo would both score two goals in the first quarter. The Mustangs turned the ball over five times in the first quarter and four out of the five times led to a goal for the Lakers. The Lakers led 8-0 at the end of the first quarter.
The second quarter was just as a dominant of a performance for the Lakers as the first quarter. Sela Wiley would score her second goal of the game with 13:48 in the second quarter. Freshman Noelle Smith would score her third goal of the season 32 seconds later. Madison Davis would then score her third goal of the game to put the Lakers up 11-0. The Lakers would end the second quarter with Madison Davis scoring goal number four of the game and Shae McConnell scoring her second goal of the game. Both goals would come after Morrisville penalties. The Lakers would lead 15-0 at halftime.
The second half saw the Lakers continue their domination of the Mustangs. Shae McConnell opened the third quarter with her third goal of the game. With 12:54 in the third quarter, the Mustangs would finally get on the board as Alana McDonald would score her fourth goal of the season. Julia Quirk would then score back-to-back goals for the Lakers to put the Lakers up 18-1. Sela Wiley with 6:04 left in the second quarter scored her fourth goal of the game as both Madison Davis and Sela Wiley had four goals for the game. A foul on Sofia Mangino led to Aria Treadway scoring her third goal of the season but the game was out of reach for the Mustangs.
The Lakers dominance cooled down in the fourth quarter as they only scored two goals. Ashley Casserly scored her second goal of the season to put the Lakers up 20-3. Alexis Hill would then score the final goal of the game with 26 seconds left as she scored her first goal as a Laker. The Lakers would win 21-5 over the Mustangs in their best offensive outing of the season. Madison Davis would have her third game of the season where she would score four or more goals in a game. The Lakers are out to their best start of the season since the shortened 2021 lacrosse season where they finished 4-5 and where they opened their season against Morrisville winning 20-14. With the way the Lakers are performing right now, they are on pace for their best season since the 2019 lacrosse season where they finished 11-5 and where their season that year ended with a 18-5 loss to Geneseo in the SUNYAC Outdoor Championship.
The Lakers travel to Rochester to take on St. John Fisher College on Wednesday, March 15th at Growney Stadium. The Cardinals sit at 2-1 on the season after a 11-9 win over Colorado College after playing two games at Colorado College last week. The Cardinals lost their first game of the season in their first game last Wednesday at Colorado College losing 9-7 to Messiah University a team who currently sits a 4-1 on the season. The Lakers have not beaten St. John Fisher in almost 17 years as their last win against them came in the 2006 lacrosse season. The Lakers last played St. John Fisher last season and lost 11-4. The Lakers look for win number four and a 4-1 start to a season since 2019.

Oswego State Women’s Lacrosse Falls to Geneseo Knights
GENESEO, N.Y. — The Oswego State Women’s Lacrosse team lost their first game of the 2021 season on Monday, falling to the Geneseo Knights in a 22-9 defeat. This is the Lakers first SUNYAC loss after previously going 2-0 against SUNY Fredonia and Buffalo State in the west division. The nationally ranked Geneseo team was able to hold the Lakers offense which came out hot to start the 2021 season.
Geneseo came out of the gates firing, scoring six unanswered goals just seven minutes into the game, including three goals from senior attack, Hannah Marafioti. Lakers leading scorer, Sela Wiley, ended the Knights scoring run with a goal of her own. The Lakers faced a 5-goal deficit early in the first half, things weren’t looking great for the Lakers. Unfortunately, Oswego State wasn’t able to keep up with Geneseo’s high-powered offense for much of the game. The Knights went on three separate 6-goal scoring runs throughout the contest, effectively preventing any chance of a Laker comeback. Geneseo had three players score at least 4 goals, including Tessa Doody (4), Jacqui Thorsen (4), and Hannah Marafioti (6). Oswego was lead by Logan Castiglione, Kamryn Sherman, and Sela Wiley, who each scored two goals respectively. Oswego now falls to 2-1 in conference play, which currently places them third in their division. Oswego will have the opportunity to rebound in a out-of-conference matchup vs Clarkson University on April 14th at Laker Turf Stadium. WTOP 10 will be live at the field with all the action.
