OSWEGO — The last hockey game taking place in the Marano Campus Center this semester is set to feature the Women’s hockey team, who recently beat the Canton Roos. The Lakers were victorious in Canton Friday night as their NEWHL matchup finished 2-1. Freshman Mia Conboy tallied the game winner in the second period to put the group on a four game win streak, which may stabilize them in second place in the conference. Before heading into winter break, the Lakers welcome Amherst College, a small college located in Massachusetts. The last time this NESCAC team traveled to Oswego was in 2012, however the Lakers beat the Mammoths on the road in 2018. If the Lakers obtain the win tomorrow, the team will head into break on a five game win streak that would be the first since the beginning of the 2018-19 campaign. Oneonta Blanks Oswego 3-0 in SUNYAC Opener
OSWEGO, N.Y. — Joe Holder scored in the third minute and Milton Mancias Magana added two goals as SUNY Oneonta defeated Oswego State 3-0 on Saturday in the SUNYAC men’s soccer opener at Laker Turf Stadium

Holder put the Red Dragons (6-2-1, 1-0 SUNYAC) on the board just 3:23 into the match off an assist from Nico Loaiza. Despite eight first-half saves from Oswego goalkeeper Kyle Rose, Oneonta controlled play and doubled its lead in the 43rd minute when Mancias Magana broke through for his first tally.
The Lakers (1-4-3, 0-1) managed only three shots in the contest and struggled to break down a disciplined Oneonta defense. Rose finished with eight saves, keeping Oswego within striking distance until Mancias Magana struck again in the 86th minute off a pass from Zach Tanner to seal the result.
The match featured physical play throughout, with 19 combined fouls and a yellow card issued to Oneonta’s Erik Popp late in the first half. Oneonta outshot Oswego 27-3 and held a 7-2 edge in corner kicks.
The Lakers will look to rebound Wednesday when they travel to SUNY Canton for another nonconference matchup.

Men’s soccer bounces back with win
ITHACA, N.Y. — The Oswego State men’s soccer team travelled south to take on the Ithaca College Bombers on Sunday. The Lakers hadn’t beat Ithaca since 1996 and they knew they wanted to change that.
The Bombers were the ones to get off to the hot start. An early yellow card for Ithaca, in just the sixth minute, gave the bombers some momentum. They put the ball past Oswego goalie Matt D’Arpino just over a minute later. Luckily for the Lakers they turned it around real quick. Oswego’s Ha Joon Lee found the back of the net just three minutes later to tie the game. The pace of the game slowed from there. The next goal came in the 33rd minute. Kieran Gilroy for the Lakers scored his second goal of the season to put the Lakers up. Oswego didn’t stop there though, with Anastasios Diacovasilis scoring just before the half to give the Lakers a 3-1 lead. The second half didn’t see nearly as much action as the first. An early yellow card for Ithaca, and a few shots for each side were the only real action. Oswego beat Ithaca for the first time in 26 years. Although the Lakers were outshot in the game 16-9, they they had more quality shots, with 6 of their shots being on goal to only two of Ithaca’s. Ha Joon Lee led the Lakers in shots and shots on goal with three each.
Oswego is now 2-2 on the season with only one game left before SUNYAC play. Their next game is their home opener on Tuesday September 13th against Elmira College at 6:00 at Laker Turf Stadium.

Oswego womens hockey sweeps Morrisville this weekend
OSWEGO, N.Y. – It was a great way for the lakers to get back on track this weekend as they added two big SUNYAC victories to their record. The Lakers first faced the Mustangs in Morrisville where it was almost all Lakers from start to finish. After a scoreless first period for the Lakers Ashlyn Mcgrath scored two minutes into the second period. The lakers kept heavy pressure throughout the second period outshooting the Mustings 25-13. Mia Conboy tacked on another Lakers goal in the second scoring her first of the season. Morrisville was able to score at the end of the second but it was too late as the lakers momentum was not going to be stopped. In the third period sophomore Ashlyn Mcgrath scored her fourth goal of the season and second of the contest for the Lakers. A late goal by Mack Hull sealed the 4-1 win for the Lakers. The Mustangs had a chance at redemption the following day.The Lakers had a rematch against the mustangs this past Saturday this time in the Deborah F. Stanley Arena. This was another fantastic performance from the Lakers as they skated to another 4-1 victory. Another scoreless first period made the Lakers hungry to get on the board in the second. After a missed power play opportunity shortly into the second Amanda Zenstein scored her first goal of the season and the first goal of the game for the Lakers. The Mustangs would answer right back scoring their only goal of the game in the second. After having an amazing performance the day before, Ashlyn Mcgrath added to her weekend resume with another goal to put the Lakers up by two. Taylor Hudon would then put another goal on on the board for the Lakers. As if three goals on the weekend wasn’t enough, Ashlyn Mcgrath would score her fourth goal of the weekend and second of the game for the Lakers. Mcgrath has been a tremendous asset to this Lakers team and continues to prove her importance. The Lakers gained some needed momentum this weekend and look to keep it rolling as they take on the the Cortland Red Dragons this Friday in the Deb. Catch it live on WTOP10!
