WTOP-10 Introduces a New Social Media Strategy —
Bringing News Directly to Viewers’ Social Media Feeds

OSWEGO, NY — WTOP-10 News is pleased to announce the rebranding of our digital content effective immediately. Our organization has previously focused our social media efforts on promoting our station’s on-air broadcasts and original productions. We have made the decision to redirect our social media strategy to prioritize providing SUNY Oswego students, Oswego residents, and alumni with relevant and breaking news.

The station realizes that the digital format is constantly shifting. News outlets are now using social media as a tool to directly access the public and provide pressing information within a reasonable timeframe. Our audience has previously had to wait for an on-air broadcast to receive news coverage before the implementation of this new social media strategy today.

"After several years of encouraging WTOP's student management team to rethink the station's social media strategy, I'm thrilled to advise a leadership team that is placing a stronger emphasis on sharing campus and community news with audiences across WTOP's social media platforms," said Micheal Riecke, Faculty Advisor, WTOP-10.

We are looking forward to keeping our community informed through easily accessible social media platforms: Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter. Our audience can stay up-to-date and access breaking news applicable to SUNY Oswego and the greater Oswego community by following us on any of the previously listed platforms: @wtop10oswego.

“As times continue to rapidly change this year, we believe WTOP-10’s shift to news related content online will bolster traffic to our social media pages, better connect us with our SUNY Oswego community, and help to foster a greater community surrounding WTOP-10,” said Matt Green, General Manager, WTOP-10. “I’m excited to work with my wonderful management team as we start a new chapter of content producing.”

Our new social media strategy represents WTOP-10’s drive to stay current with the evolving landscape of digital media. While we understand that we are a student-run organization at SUNY Oswego, our station is committed to staying current by applying growing trends within the broadcast industry to our organization’s operations. This transition will benefit the local community as news consumption will be accessible on-the-go.
