
OSWEGO — The Men’s Soccer team ties nationally ranked Cortland after a highly competitive match up at Laker Stadium yesterday. After double OT, the teams finished the contest 1-1 with both groups starting off their SUNYAC conference play 2-0-1. After a scoreless first half, Steven Rojas, Freshman, scores off a shot from Caleb Asamoah. The Red Dragons would equalize later in the half, the first goal that got past keeper Brian Terra since Ithaca on Sept. 17. The group looks to keep their successful SUNYAC streak going with another home game against Oneonta this Friday. Kickoff is at 4 p.m.

Oswego Men’s Hockey Preview of Teal Night vs. Carleton Place

OSWEGO — Men’s Hockey starts their 55th hockey season this Saturday with their annual Teal Night game against Carleton Place. The Lakers look to start their season at Marano Campus Center after their 10-day trip overseas this past August. The Lakers swept their European competitors in their first ever trip over the pond. Oswego was ranked 3rd overall in the SUNYAC preseason poll behind rival Geneseo, who beat them last season in the SUNYAC Championship. New Laker captain Josh Zizek is looking to have another outstanding year after he recorded 25 points his junior year. This match up will be the first of two exhibition games for the team before their first regular season game against SUNY Cortland. Oswego hockey fans can purchase tickets online or at the box office. But, if you cannot make it to MCC, make sure to tune in right here, at WTOP10.com for another installment of Hockey Night in Oswego. Puck drop will be at 7 p.m.

Big Weekend in Men’s Soccer

OSWEGO — A big weekend coming up for the Lakers as they host Plattsburgh on Friday and Potsdam on Saturday. The Lakers will head into the action (3-5-1) overall, but more importantly (0-3) in conference play which makes these games even more important. Two wins this weekend would give the Lakers six points in the standings and would greatly improve their chances of getting one of the six spots in the SUNYAC championship tournament later this month.

Women’s Basketball Get Back in the Win Column
BUFFALO, NY – The Lakers after losing their first game of the season yesterday got back in the win column taking down Buffalo State 73-66. The Lakers didn’t trail at once during the game.The Lakers started out the game on a hot streak as they made three straight three-pointers to lead 9-6 where Buffalo State would also hit two three-pointers in a row as well. Karleigh Leo would hit two of those three-pointers with the other from Logan Castiglione. The Lakers hit four three-pointers in total in the first quarter with the fourth coming from Shania Iglesias. Oswego would shoot 44.4% from the field compared to the Bengals 35.00%. The Lakers would lead 26-18 at the end of the first quarter.
The Lakers momentum only continued in the second quarter where they would lead 41-30 at the half. The Lakers managed to put up a respectable 41.2% from the field and 42.9% from the three-point range. The Lakers managed to add two more three-pointers in the second quarter as Logan Castiglione hit her second of the game and Peyton Daeffler made her first three-pointer of the season.
Diamond Pickett scored the first points of the second half to extend the Lakers lead to 13. Castiglione would add her third three-pointer of the game to extend the Lakers lead to 46-32 with 7:49 left in the third quarter. The Lakers struggled from the field in the quarter as they shot 18.18% in the third. The Lakers led 54-45 at the end of the third quarter.
