OSWEGO, NY- It was a tough outing for the Lakers this past Tuesday. The Lakers were not able to keep up with Geneseo’s fast pace offense and ultimately lost in a blowout. Oswego found themselves in a hole that they couldn’t dig themselves out of early as they were trailing the Golden Knights by fifteen at the end of the first quarter. Despite a great performance by senior Peyton Daeffler who dropped eight points in the contest, it wasn’t enough to get her team going. The Lakers had a remarkable second quarter putting up eighteen points and heading into halftime only down by five. Despite the impressive second quarter it was not enough as the Golden Knights put up thirty-five points in the second half compared to the Lakers twelve to seal their 62-34 victory. The Lakers look to regroup and get back in the win column as they take on Plattsburgh State this Friday at home. Game is at 5:30PM on WTOP10!

Oswego State women’s hockey wins in dominant fashion
OSWEGO N.Y. — A good ole fashion blowout. That’s what this game could be named. The Oswego State women’s hockey team faced off against the Buffalo State Bengals Wednesday night and held them scoreless. This dominant victory showcased just how impressive this Lakers team is. The Lakers now move to 12-7-1 on the season, and 9-4-1 in the SUNYAC Conference. This impressive five score victory was just what the Lakers needed to build more momentum moving forward. Some key contributors in this contest were freshman Ashlyn McGrath who led the Lakers with two goals on the night, as well as one assist. The freshman has proved this season that she’s here to stay and will be an integral part of this Lakers team for years to come. Sophomore Rachel Corbett also had an impressive performance with one goal and one assist. Sophomore Mia Conboy had a goal as well and was impressive throughout the contest. If this Lakers team continues to dominate, they will be very hard to stop in the coming weeks as the season heats up. The Lakers are set to have their senior night this Friday in the Deb Stan Arena. SUNYAC announces return of Spring Sports
OSWEGO, NY — Tuesday afternoon, SUNY Chancellor Jim Malatras announced that the SUNYAC conference will be returning on March 20th with spring sports. The sports of baseball, men’s and women’s lacrosse, softball, women’s tennis, and men’s and women’s outdoor track & field will all return as all of their seasons were cancelled last year when the COVID-19 pandemic begun.
The conference will be split into east and west divisions to limit travel and cost expenditures. The divisions will be based on geographic location with Interstate-81 being used to split New York state in two. For the sports of Women’s lacrosse and softball, two five team divisions will be used. Since Fredonia and Buffalo State do not sponsor men’s lacrosse programs, Cortland will compete in the west division and there will only be four teams per division. Lastly, women’s tennis will be without Buffalo State and Potsdam due to their lack of teams.
The other details that were announced yesterday regarding this decision revolve around logistical aspects of this season. Masks will be warn at all time except during the heat of the competition. No spectators will be allowed to watch games in person due to current New York State Department of Health guidelines. There will be regular weekly testing through each campus for athletes and team officials. Along with that, athletes will be tested three days prior to road trips. On those trips, no eating will be allowed on the buses and capacity must be reduced to 50 percent. During the game, there should be no handshakes and group celebrations.
SUNYAC Commissioner Tom DiCamillo stated that there will be more guidelines announced later along with schedules for every team and school. As of right now, the season will be opened with two women’s lacrosse match ups as Cortland plays Plattsburgh and Potsdam travels to Oneonta. Lakers Fall to Hamilton at Home
OSWEGO, N.Y. – Oswego State’s women’s soccer team returned home Tuesday night but fell short against Hamilton College, dropping a 3-1 nonconference decision at Laker Turf Stadium.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Lakers (3-1-1) came into the matchup undefeated at home this season and showed early defensive resolve against the Continentals (1-2-0). Despite trading chances in the opening minutes, Hamilton broke through in the 31st minute when Maddie Ledbury converted a penalty kick to give the visitors a 1-0 lead.
Oswego responded with energy after halftime. In the 63rd minute, Kyla Sustad and Amber McDermott combined to set up Luna Catano, who buried her first goal of the season in the lower left corner to pull the Lakers level. The strike energized the crowd and momentarily shifted momentum in Oswego’s favor.
But Hamilton regained control in the closing stages. With just over 10 minutes left, Diana Baffor put the Continentals ahead, finishing inside the box in the 80th minute. Less than a minute later, Isabel Harvey added an insurance tally off an assist from Baffor, sealing Hamilton’s first win of the year.
Oswego goalkeeper Payton Crane was tested throughout, finishing with six saves against 23 Hamilton shots. The Lakers managed nine shots, four on target, with Catano’s equalizer marking their lone breakthrough. Despite strong defensive stretches and late offensive pressure, Oswego was unable to match Hamilton’s finishing efficiency.
The loss marks Oswego’s first setback of the season after a three-game winning streak. The Lakers will look to bounce back Saturday when they host St. Lawrence University in another nonconference matchup. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. at Laker Turf Stadium.
