OSWEGO, NY- It was a tough outing for the Lakers this past Tuesday. The Lakers were not able to keep up with Geneseo’s fast pace offense and ultimately lost in a blowout. Oswego found themselves in a hole that they couldn’t dig themselves out of early as they were trailing the Golden Knights by fifteen at the end of the first quarter. Despite a great performance by senior Peyton Daeffler who dropped eight points in the contest, it wasn’t enough to get her team going. The Lakers had a remarkable second quarter putting up eighteen points and heading into halftime only down by five. Despite the impressive second quarter it was not enough as the Golden Knights put up thirty-five points in the second half compared to the Lakers twelve to seal their 62-34 victory. The Lakers look to regroup and get back in the win column as they take on Plattsburgh State this Friday at home. Game is at 5:30PM on WTOP10!

Women’s lacrosse struggles against SUNY Cortland
OSWEGO, N.Y. — The Oswego State women’s lacrosse team had an afternoon contest with the SUNY Cortland Red Dragons Friday. Cortland came in as the number one team in the SUNYAC, and with an undefeated program record against the Lakers, 31-0, and looked to keep both.
The Red Dragons started hot. They got on the board just 44 seconds into the game, and kept their lead the entire contest. By the end of the firsT, SUNY Cortland had scored two more, and held a 3-0 advantage. The second period was when Cortland did a lot of their damage. They scored eight more unanswered goals, three players finding the back of the net more than once. Cortland’s Lauren Hopsicker had a second period hat trick, and Hannah Lorenzen finished the hat trick she started in the first. The Lakers would score one before the half, Logan Castiglione netting one, but the Lakers still were down 11-1 at the half. Cortland kept up the pressure in the second half, scoring three more times in the third period to extend their advantage to 14-1. The Red Dragon’s scored twice more before the Lakers would answer in the fourth, but the fourth is when the Lakers found a little momentum. With just under eight minutes to go, Cortland got a penalty, and Oswego would capitalize. Isabella Lembo scored on the man-up advantage, for Oswego’s second, just nine seconds into the penalty. Lembo scored again just three minutes later for Oswego’s third, Castiglione tallying assists on both goals. The Red Dragons answered with one final goal, their seventeen of the game. Oswego would grab one more consolation goal, Shae McConnell scoring, assisted by Madison Davis. Oswego couldn’t match Cortland’s offensive prowess, and lost 17-4. Lembo scored twice for the Lakers and Castiglione had three points. A tough day between the pipes for Sarah Kamide, allowing 17 goals on 27 shots. For SUNY Cortland, five players had more than two goals, and three had more than four points.
The Lakers next matchup comes against SUNY Potsdam on Saturday April, 23. They now have a 4-9 (3-3 SUNYAC) record. They sit fifth in the SUNYAC with three games to go before the playoffs.

#25 Oswego State men’s basketball team extends win streak to 11
OSWEGO, N.Y. — On Tuesday, the #25 Oswego State men’s basketball team defeated SUNY Geneseo 88-63, extending their win streak to 11. This victory not only marked the Lakers’ fifth win of the new year, but also the first Geneseo SUNYAC loss.
Through the first four minutes of play, both teams came out firing, with the Knights leading 7-6. Shortly after, Oswego found themselves on a 9-0 run lead by junior Jamal Achille who scored six points. After the Knights went on a scoring run of their own, Oswego was able to capitalize on a 13-4 run which put the Lakers up 38-22 at the half. The Lakers were able to hold the Knights to 25% from the field in the first half, their lowest shooting percentage in any half this season.
Both teams came into the second half scorching hot. In the first 10 minutes, Geneseo were perfect beyond the arch as they went 5-for-5 from three. However, the Lakers were able to keep pace with Geneseo’s scoring onslaught, answering every three with one of their own, going 7-for-9 from deep. Geneseo brought the deficit to eight, but Brendan Mulson hit a three to put the Lakers up by double-digits once again. Over the final six minutes of regulation, the Lakers continued their great shooting performance, hitting four more shots from deep as their lead grew to over twenty.
Oswego finished the night with 13 three-pointers while shooting a whopping 51.6% from the field. Senior Julien Crittendon lead the Lakers in scoring with 18 points while Devin Green totaled 16 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists. Brendan Mulson (11) and Ahkee Anderson (10) also scored double-digit points in the contest.
With this win, the Lakers are now in sole possession of the top seed in the SUNYAC conference. Oswego is also the #25 ranked team in the nation and with a win on Saturday against SUNY Cortland, they will almost certainly rise in the standings. Tip off is set for 4:00 p.m. at Cortland. A Preview of the 2020 Pathfinder Bank/Oswego State Hockey Classic
OSWEGO, NY — In the first weekend of the new decade, Men’s Hockey welcomes in three out of conference teams to the 2020 Pathfinder Bank/Oswego State Hockey Classic. The 14th edition of the four team tournament is set to begin this Friday as the Lakers look to defend the title. This year, the competition is set to feature three nationally ranked programs, #9 University of New England, #10 Oswego, #14 Williams College, along with Saint Mary’s University traveling in from Minnesota. The Lakers, who currently sit atop the SUNYAC conference with an overall record of 7-3, will face the Saint Mary’s Cardinals at 7 p.m. on Friday in the semifinal round. The 3-5-1 Cardinals look to build on their win over Gustavus Adolphus College back on December 7th, while Oswego looks to bring home some recent success that was found on the road. #9 University of New England and #14 Williams college will face off before hand at 4 p.m. which will feature an offensive talented group from UNE against the defensive Ephs of Williams college.
