Mens Baseball Sweeps Fredonia in Weekend Action

2022_Team_Photo ROCHESTER, NY – It was a successful weekend for the Lakers as they convincingly beat the Fredonia Blue Devils in both of their encounters this weekend. Game won was nothing short of a blowout that saw the Lakers dominate Fredonia with a final score of 12-1. The momentum was in favor of the Lakers from the start as they truly dominated this game. Fredonia would score their only run of the game in the top of the second inning. Senior Colin Williams was on fire this game as he finished with one run and two RBI’s. It really was a team effort however as the Lakers were firing on all cylinders from start to finish. The Lakers looked to take this momentum into the next day where they had a rematch against the Blue Devils.

The Lakers kept the momentum rolling the next day when they knocked off Fredonia for the second time. This game was a lot closer and saw both teams fighting hard for a victory. The Lakers started off hot scoring three runs in the bottom of the first inning. The Blue Devils weren’t going to let history repeat itself as they bounced right back tying the game in the third. The Lakers then went on to score three more runs and the game looked like it was shaping up to be another Lakers victory. Fredonia was not done however as they came right back and scored three more runs to tie the game at six. After this the game got out of hand with the Lakers completely taking over. Freshman Emil Sander would score the Lakers final run to give them a five run victory as the Lakers completed the weekend sweep. The Lakers look to keep this momentum rolling as they head to New Paltz this Friday at 3pm.

Oswego women’s basketball falls to Knights

Caitie_Lilly_Pass

OSWEGO, NY- It was a tough outing for the Lakers this past Tuesday. The Lakers were not able to keep up with Geneseo’s fast pace offense and ultimately lost in a blowout. Oswego found themselves in a hole that they couldn’t dig themselves out of early as they were trailing the Golden Knights by fifteen at the end of the first quarter.  Despite a great performance by senior Peyton Daeffler who dropped eight points in the contest, it wasn’t enough to get her team going. The Lakers had a remarkable second quarter putting up eighteen points and heading into halftime only down by five. Despite the impressive second quarter it was not enough as the Golden Knights put up thirty-five points in the second half compared to the Lakers twelve to seal their 62-34 victory. The Lakers look to regroup and get back in the win column as they take on Plattsburgh State this Friday at home. Game is at 5:30PM on WTOP10!

Myah_Booth_Pass

OSWEGO, N.Y. – It was a week of ups and downs for Laker women’s hockey this weekend as they had some success and some troubles. The Lakers took on the Buff State Bengals Friday in a game that was an absolute massacre from start to finish. The Bengals have been really struggling this season with only three wins to their name. The Lakers were happy to add another loss to their record with a whopping 9-2 victory. It was the Mack Hull, Simone Bednarik, and Ashlyn Mcgrath show as they all got a piece of the pie with multiple goals on the day. Mack Hull had three goals on the day, two in the first period and one early on in the second to set her team up for success. Bednarik would score the first goal of the game and from there the Lakers completely dominated the rest of the contest. The Bengals were able to score two goals throughout the game but it was nowhere close enough to get the job done. The Lakers would look to keep the momentum rolling as they headed into a big home game against the Plattsburgh Cardinals the following day.

The Lakers did not have the same success they had the day before as they fell to the Cardinals in a hard fought battle until the very end. Plattsburgh got on the board fourteen minutes into the first to put them in the driving seat. The Lakers were far from out of the game however as Ashlyn Mcgrath would score her 10th goal of the season to tie up the came in the second period. Mcgrath has been on an absolute tear this season as she has been dominating for the Lakers in every game. Plattsburgh would break the tie in the third and despite the valiant effort, would suffer a 2-3 loss in a close fought battle. The Lakers headed to Potsdam this past Friday to take on the Bears in what was a big matchup for them. Despite a close game the Lakers just weren’t able to get the job done in a 2-1 loss. It was a stalemate in the first period as both teams remained scoreless at the buzzer. The second period is where things got out of hands for the Lakers as Potsdam was able to put two goals on the board and the Lakers just did not have an answer. Looking to rally in the third sophomore Ashlyn McGrath scored a goal capitalizing on an early third period power-play. The Lakers could not crawl out of the Bears trap they set up in the second as they left Potsdam with a one goal loss. Despite this loss the Lakers bounced back the following day.

Oswego women’s hockey loses first two games of the season

Taylor_Hudson_8

OSWEGO, N.Y.  – It was a tough weekend for the Lakers as they finish start their season with a 0-2 record with two bad loses to Adrian College. Their home opener was a one sided affair where the Lakers never really got their footing in the contest. The Bulldogs were able to score two goals in the first period and gain the momentum early. Down by two in the second period the Lakers showed some fight when Kaylen Taddia was able to capitalize on a penalty shot resulting in their only goal of the game. Despite the final score of 4-1. Debuting transfer goalie Lexi Levy played a great game for the Lakers tallying thirty three goals ending the contest with a .892 save percentage. Levy is coming off of an injury and proved her importance to this Lakers team in her debut. The Lakers had a chance to get some revenge when they had a rematch against Adrian College the next day.

The Lakers had revenge on their mind in their rematch, but ended up suffering an even worse loss to Adrian College in their second affair. The Lakers just couldn’t get anything going offensively and had some trouble preventing the Bulldogs from pouring it on. Less then three minuted into the game the Bulldogs capitalized off the power play to go up 1-0 very early. From there it was all downhill for the Lakers as they would finish the game scoreless. The story of the game was the Lakers had many opportunities to capitalize on the power play but just couldn’t get anything cooking. The Final score was a 5-0 shutout by the Bulldogs. The Lakers look to regroup as they travel to Potsdam on Friday, November 4th for a conference game against the Potsdam Bears.

Oswego women’s hockey falls to Nazareth

Hiebert_Save

OSWEGO, N.Y.  – It was a tough exhibition matchup for the Lakers as they went head to head against a very good Golden Flyers team. Nazareth is coming off an incredible season last year finishing with a 27-2-0 overall record and sweeping their conference 20-0. Despite the Golden Flyers losing a whopping thirteen seniors after last season they were still able to get the job done in the Deb. The Lakers had a rough start of the game not getting much going against a face paced Nazareth team. Nazareth opened up with a goal by Ivy Liden halfway through the first period. Heading into the second it was like night and day as the Lakers performed much better, tying it up with Nazareth with a goal from Megan Gates off of an assist by former Golden Flyer Taylor Hudon and Mia Conboy. Nazareth however answered right back with a goal by Ally Watrous to go up 2-1 heading into the third. The Lakers were not able to string a comeback as Ally Watrous would tack on another goal for the day to seal the Golden Flyers victory. OSWEGO, N.Y.  – After a close game to all the way till the final seconds, the Oswego Lakers remain winless at home after a tough loss to SUNY Plattsburgh. This rivalry game was a great opportunity for the lakers to get back into the win column with a huge SUNYAC win and it was looking in favor of the Lakers early on as Senior Ryan Young was able to get on the board first for oswego with a ripper of a goal halfway through the first. Unfortunately for the Lakers  this was their first and last goal as Plattsburghs stellar defense was able to shut down the Lakers for the remainder of the game. Despitee a fantastic performance for freshman goalie Andre Bourjolly who was an absolute monster in goal making saves on almost every shot that came its way, Plattsburgh kept pushing the pace and ended up scoring 2 goals minutes apart in the second half. After Plattsburgh took the lead Oswego wasn’t able to bounce back. The Lakers look to get back on track this Wednesday as they go on the road to face the Buff State Bengals.

Lakers women’s soccer with two shutouts this week to kick off the season

WSOC_2022_Canton

OSWEGO N.Y.  The Oswego State Women’s Soccer Team is looking sharper than ever as they steamrolled through both of their opponents this week. They headed to Cazenovia to challenge the Wildcats in their season opener. At the 17:30 mark in the first have sophomore Katie Delgrosso scored the first goal of the season for the Lakers and it was all downhill for Cazenovia from there. Freshman Cassidy Adamec would add to the Lakers lead right before the half scoring her first collegiate goal in a moment that will stay fresh in her mind for some time to come. The second half of the contest is where the game got out of hand with the Lakers scoring goals left and right showcasing how they are a force to be reckoned with this season. Graduate student Graisa Madden finished the day with a stellar two goals and one assist for the Lakers. Katie Delgrosso also put up two goals in this matchup. With a 7-0 victory in the books, the momentum was on their side as the lakers would face SUNY Canton this past Saturday in their home opener.

The Lakers resume against SUNY Canton is astounding. The Lakers have not let up a single goal in franchise history against this Canton team and the streak continued as they dismantled the Kangaroos in another 7-0 victory. The Lakers were firing on all cylinders from start to finish. Despite this impressive performance, the Lakers had some trouble finding the back of the net in the first half as Canton’s defense only let up one goal despite many opportunities for the Lakers. Similar to Thursday’s contest against Cazenovia, the second half is where things got out of hand. Freshman Briana Winkler had the home debut of a lifetime scoring her first two goals as a Laker in this game. Winkler was on fire the whole game and will definitely see the field a lot more in the coming weeks. Katie Delgrosso, Graisa Madden, and Luignina Serrao all had very impressive performances in this contest. The Lakers season goal total for their 2021 season was nineteen and with just two games in the books, they are already approaching that total with fourteen. The Lakers look to keep this momentum going as they take on Houghton University at 5:00pm this Tuesday.

Oswego State baseball hits this weekend out of the park

Tammaro1ONEONTA, N.Y. – The Oswego Lakers baseball team had quite the impressive weekend in they’re three games played. Saturday the Lakers had a double header where they sweeped SUNY Oneonta in impressive fashion. The first matchup was a 8-0 shutout with the Lakers having an answer for everything Oneonta threw their way. Senior Paul Tammaro led the charge with two runs scored on the day with two RBIs. Ryan Enos also had two runs on the day in a performance that is far from unexpected. Enos has proved to be an integral part of this Laker team. Pure domination is the only way to describe this game as Oneonta could get absolutely nothing going in this contest. Pitcher Jakob Sanders had six strikeouts on the day and only gave up one hit.

The next game was much of the same as this time only one run was scored for Oneonta, making the final score 7-1. Tammaro lead the large again in this contest as he was the lead scorer with two runs and two RBIs. Enos also had a run with two RBIs in this game. The Lakers weren’t able to get much going until late in the contest. Going into the top of the seventh, the score was 2-1 with the lakers sitting on a one point lead. With Oneonta out for blood, this contest was much closer than the previous two. A slow start for the Lakers resulted in Oneonta having a three run lead early in the contest. The following inning the Lakers put up two runs when senior Ryan Weiss hit a two run homer that couldn’t have been more clutch. With the momentum back with the Lakers they began to fight 6-1 run the rest of the contest, resulting in a 8-6 victory. Weiss was the star player with three runs total and a homer on the day.
