The Oswego State women’s hockey team ran into some trouble tonight as they got defeated by the host Castleton Spartans 2-0 in front of just under 200 fans. The Lakers (0-1-0, 0-0) got shutout by Castleton goalie Paula Stephens, who had 28 saves for her first shutout of the season. Bridget Smith had 15 saves in the 1st period alone, as she allowed only 2 goals in the loss. She recorded 32 saves in her losing effort. Castleton (1-0-0, 0-0) scored both goals in the 2nd period with goals coming from Brianna Keats and Sam Pion, with both goals coming on the power play (2-10).
The Lakers had their chances on the power play, with 8 chances, failing to score on any. (0-8) The Lakers get another chance for their 1st win of the season tomorrow against New England College at 3 P.M.

Northern Arizona Shooting Leaves 1 Dead, 3 Wounded
One is dead and three are wounded after a confrontation outside of a residence hall causes a student to shoot four people in what has been the second reported “mass” shooting in a month.
18-year-old Steven Jones produced a handgun and shot four students after it is reported that two groups of males took part in a fight outside one of the residence halls.
The Arizona Board of Regents prohibits people from carrying guns around campus, but they are allowed to stow them in their cars.
This incident comes on the same day that President Barack Obama was scheduled to meet with families of the victims of the events at Umpqua Community College in Oregon, a shooting which took place just 8 days ago.
In a statement President Obama made regarding Oregon, he said “Somehow this has become routine. The reporting is routine. My response here at this podium ends up being routine.”
For many that hear about these two school shootings in 8 days, it is hard to think of it as anything but routine.

SUNY Oswego continues to offer travel accommodations for breaks

OSWEGO, N.Y.– Finding a way home for Thanksgiving Break can be stressful for students without a means of transportation. SUNY Oswego offers a few ways for students to travel home during long breaks.
The college offers three ways for students to travel home for breaks; shuttle bus, college express bus, and zip cars.
The Greyhound and Trailways shuttle buses travel from the Regional Transportation Center (RTC) and Syracuse’s Hancock International Airport. The College Express is a bus shuttle service from SUNY Oswego to downstate, including stops in New York City, New Jersey, Rockland and Orange Counties, Queens and Long Island. The prices for the College Express service varies between one way, round trip, walk on and reservations.
If you would like to buy a ticket, you can visit Lesley Wallace in the Compass to make your reservation, and she will handle your payments and any other information a student may have.
SUNY Oswego offers Zipcars for students who do not wish to ride a bus, train, or plane. Zipcars are a rental car service where members of the service can reserve a car for as little as 1 hour or as long as 7 days. The prices vary, depending on the car and hour long you wish to borrow the car, but gas and insurance are included. Student memberships are $15.To purchase tickets for the Greyhound shuttle, go to the Compass located at 145 Marano Campus Center.
