OSWEGO — Women’s Hockey had a minor setback in their 2019-2020 season today as they fell to the Amherst Mammoths. The 3-0 loss was the first since November 8th when the Lakers lost to the Plattsburgh Cardinals. The Mammoths went ahead on the scoreboard in the first period on the powerplay. They would not add to their total till the third period as the group netted one even strength and then towards the end as the group buried an empty net goal. Senior Rachael Farmer kept Oswego in this game who finished with 19 saves. The Lakers will take a month off until they battle King’s College in the Marano Campus Center and then travel to Morrisville for a NEWHL matchup. Women’s Hockey finishes their first half of the season at 7-3-1 and in second place in the Northeast Women’s Hockey League.

OSWEGO — The last hockey game taking place in the Marano Campus Center this semester is set to feature the Women’s hockey team, who recently beat the Canton Roos. The Lakers were victorious in Canton Friday night as their NEWHL matchup finished 2-1. Freshman Mia Conboy tallied the game winner in the second period to put the group on a four game win streak, which may stabilize them in second place in the conference. Before heading into winter break, the Lakers welcome Amherst College, a small college located in Massachusetts. The last time this NESCAC team traveled to Oswego was in 2012, however the Lakers beat the Mammoths on the road in 2018. If the Lakers obtain the win tomorrow, the team will head into break on a five game win streak that would be the first since the beginning of the 2018-19 campaign. OSWEGO — Women’s Hockey extends their winning streak to three wins after the group defeated the Cortland Red Dragons Wednesday night in the Marano Campus Center. The 3-2 win featured multiple Lakers getting on the stat sheet which was led by Megan Teachout. The freshman contributed by netting Oswego’s first goal of the night and tallying an assist on Morgan Shines game winning goal in the third period. The Lakers fourth line got the tying goal late in the second period when Aislinn McAleer buried a rebound off a Kate Randazzo shot. Sara Cruise returned to the line up and tallied an assist on the McAleer goal for her first point of the season. Rachael Farmer saved 19 shots and finished with a .905 save percentage in the win. This victory moves the Lakers into second in the NEWHL standings before they head to SUNY Canton on Friday, who’s currently 0-6-1 and last in the conference. The game is set to begin at 4 p.m. in the Roos House.

OSWEGO — Women’s Hockey returns home tomorrow night to battle with the Cortland Red dragons, who sits in second in the NEWHL. Cortland, who is coming off a weekend sweep at Lebanon Valley, travels back into the Marano Campus Center after tying the Lakers three weeks back. Oswego looks to continue their conference successes as the group were victorious in Potsdam two weeks ago. Their success has recently come from their special team opportunities as the team has tallied ten power play goals in eight games against conference opponents. Senior Eryn Stewart and junior Amber Thomas have both been key for Oswego’s offensive performance as both forwards have reached double digits in points only eight games into the campaign. Goaltender Rachael Farmer continues to lead the back end posting a .903 save percentage in her seven games played. The fourth place Oswego team will match up with the Cortland at 7 p.m. which is also their annual Hats, Mittens, & Coats Drive.

OSWEGO — Women’s Hockey defended the Wheelhaus once again Friday as the group defeated Canton 2-1. This conference match up featured a scoreless first period that continued into the second stanza until freshman Morgan Shines buried a rebound from Kyleigh Grugin. Freshman Maura McKeown would get credited with the second assist for her first point as a Laker. Grugin would get back on the score sheet as the freshman tallied her first career goal on the powerplay. The Canton Roos would however cut the deficit in half as the Roos scored on a five-on-three advantage six minutes into the third. Tia Trovato would finish strong in her first collegiate start as she posted a .933 save percentage to go on and get her first victory. The win keeps the Lakers at fifth in the NEWHL standings as they continue conference play tonight on the road in Potsdam to face the 3-3 Bears. Puck drop is at 3 p.m. at the Maxcy Ice Arena.
