A career-high 15 kills from sophomore Lauren Fie led Oswego to a victory over Potsdam. The scores for the match were 24-26, 25-18, 25-21, and 25-22. Oswego’s record improves to 8-10 with a 2-2 in conference record while Potsdam drops to 9-9 with a SUNYAC record of 1-3.
Fie, Alison Sullivan, and Shauna O’Flaherty all had double digits in kills and Sullivan’s five blocks were a match high. Junior Alison Berger earned a career-best in assists with 29 and digs with 12. Senior Rina Qelaj led the team in digs with 17.
The Lakers play again Saturday when they host Oneonta at 12 p.m. and Fredonia at 2:30 p.m.

Women’s Ice Hockey Suffers OT Exhibition Loss
Oswego State’s women’s ice hockey team began their season with a 4-3 overtime exhibition loss against the Toronto Midget Aeros on Saturday. The Lakers’ first regular season action will come on Friday when they face New England College in the Marano Campus Center Ice Arena.
During the first period, there was not much action between these two teams until Toronto’s Claudia Yu got the Midget Aeros on the board. Oswego would have an answer though, as they stormed back with two goals in the following period. At the center of those two scores was Jean-marie Padden who had a goal and an assist. That would not be all from her as she tallied another assist in the third period. The normal three periods would not be enough for this game though as it went into overtime, largely because of Toronto’s ability to capitalize on the power play. However, there would not be much extra hockey as the Midget Aeros were able to score the game winner just 57 seconds in. During power play opportunities, Toronto went 2-for-3 while the Lakers scored on one of four of their opportunities.
During the contest, Oswego gave all three of their goalies some playing time as Mariah Madrigal and Mikaela DiTonto notched nine saves while Amber Samonek tallied eight.

St. Patrick’s Day Parade
Oswego held its third annual Saint Patrick’s Day Parade this weekend. The parade started at Alex’s on the Water, continued down Bridge Street and ended at Gibby’s Irish Pub on West Second Street. The parade was put on by the Oswego Chapter of the Ancient Order of Hibernians.
The temperature outside was cold, but the bands were red hot. A highlight of the parade was the Buffalo Bills Drumline, the bagpipes and drum bands. Entry to the parade is free in order to encourage growth of the parade.
Patrick Chalone, coordinator of the parade and a member of the Hibernians, hopes that the Oswego Parade can compete with the Syracuse Parade. He was also glad that local business and the community of oswego enjoyed the parade! He said “Well you know I think after today’s parade, I looked at it and my favorite part of the parade is seeing all of the smiling faces on the streets of Oswego in the crowd. I mean we had a great crowd today it justs makes me feel good knowing that we’ve done…made people happy and have done a good thing”.
Next year’s parade is expected to be even larger than this year and Chalone is hoping that more local businesses will be involved in the parade next year. If you are interested in attending next year’s parade be sure to talk to Patrick Chalone about signing up
